I find this rather fascinating in its attempt to resolve/absolve Islam of commonly perceived western "biases and prejudices." I accept the argument that at times and places in the past Islam was liberal for its time and place. E.g., that women had equality based on the cultural meaning of the term for its time.

But why has it not changed and kept up in a manner comparable to the US and other western free, constitutionally liberal, nations. The US was so divided we fought a costly civil war but has evolved enormously in the relentless extension of WASP freedom to blacks, reds, browns, women and LBGT+ sexual identity minorities.

Also, where has Islam produced economies that have rapidly reduced poverty and created wealth comparable to the West?

Why, after Biden pulled out of Afghanistan, without informing our allies, did progress in women's rights and access to education appear rapidly to deteriorate?

Mohamad, the Abrahamic founder of Islam was a trader. He would have understood trade as the foundation of liberal economy at least as well as Jesus expressed it so masterfully in the Parable of the Talents.
