I work in Civil Engineering when I'm not running around for Uber, or on here to receive crypto pennies for my thoughts. MUH ROADS are literally MUH JOB! I read this article, and laughed. The reason is, like all economic illiterates, they simply don't know what they are talking about. They have a sob story that they know will get the rubes to vote for them. Then, once they are in there all that money for MUH ROADS gets diverted elsewhere, and what little that goes for repairs, they do it on the cheap.
This story will explain it far better than I can: https://fee.org/articles/our-roads-are-crumbling-and-other-infrastructure-myths/
Until we are living in Libertopia, Ancapistan with all the private roads going everywhere, a good solution is public-private partnerships. There are even a crowdfunding websites for that very thing!
The government does that for your safety all those potholes, so you don't drive to fast. Aaaannnd it helps the econsumery to keep the fiat money rolling. All those shock absorbers wear out sooner, get it?? ;)

You are right, I thought it was general malfeasance. You've changed my mind!

Roads can be financed through municipal bonds; governments have the same means of raising capital at their disposal that corporations do. I could go through a litany of services liberals and conservatives think we need property, sales, and income taxes for and give much more efficient alternatives that aren't compulsory. The biggest lie ever told today is that we need taxes to fund public services. That's an obsolete gold standard way of thinking. Taxes exist solely to sustain our current fractional reserve central banking paradigm.
