The Driverless Car - Just Give Up Control of Your Freedom

in libertarian •  8 years ago  (edited)

Oh the wonderful driverless car.

We hear about all the companies that are working towards a self driving car. Many people are anxiously waiting for them to roll off the assembly line. They can’t wait to own one.

They sell a wonderful tale along with it. Just hop in, tell the car where you want to go and then sit back and relax while it does all the effort. You can watch videos, read your kindle, play a game, and then you’re there.

They tell you how efficient it will be, how many fewer accidents will happen.

You just have to give up control.

Control of your freedom.

You see, cars and driving is as American as it gets. Baseball, apple pie, and the open road. America was lucky enough to still have plenty of space when the automobile was coming into existence. Not like Europe, where tight roads, no parking areas, and nearly every inch accounted for. Not to mention lack of oil leading to importation and higher cost, mainly due to taxation.

You guys remember America right? The country that used to have freedoms? It's not a myth.

No, America had the space and the car was the means to explore it for the modern person. Cheap gas, wide open roads, and the freedom to go where you wanted. The car, YOUR car, was the way to do it.

It wasn’t that long ago that getting a drivers license was the top priority for every 16 year old. The first big step towards becoming an adult. Sadly, American teens having a license has decreased lately. A Texas study of 15-19 year olds showed 47% had a license in 2001, and it was down to 38% by 2009. 22% said they would NEVER get a license in their lifetime.

So of course the majority view of driverless cars is positive. Fewer people have the experience of driving in the first place! And based on the horrible drivers I see around me today, I bet those people would love driverless cars too!

Driverless cars is just another way to make the general populace even more like children. Hop in your car seat, buckle up, you don’t know what is best for you. Await your arrival, you will get there when we allow it.

Don’t even get me starting on things like government tracking, data collection, and all sorts of hacking that will naturally go hand-in-hand with the driverless car.

And the biggest one, a kill switch! Of course 'for emergencies only'. The government has them in your cell phones, and for the internet. They will not pass up the opportunity to have them for self driving cars. See SOP 303.

Let’s face it. The majority of people welcome control of their lives. They do what they are told. They buy the junk they are told to. They work 5 days and get 2 off. They try to cram everything they want to do in their life into those two days. And on it goes until they are too old to do much of anything. All the while, the efforts of their labor is siphoned off, like a cow getting milked.

For them, a self driving car makes sense.

To me, driving is satisfying. To know that you are a good driver, to feel confident and in control. To have the ability to quickly analyze the situation and figure out how fast you will need to be going to pass, or the exact time to merge. All those little innate things make our brains better at judging the physics of the world.

They will have their autonomous cars.

But not me. They will have to pry the steering wheel from my cold, dead hands.

30K deaths on the highway each years. Another quarter million injuries. People get distracted too easily.

People need to take more responsibility for their actions. They are driving a vehicle that can be dangerous, they need to act like it. This isn't helped by a government that coddles people so they never learn what it means to be an adult.

Making everyone like a child in the backseat, while daddy computer drives the car, will not help people become adults.

yeah well some people want be our of control of their own lives, to just suck on the matix,s teat like the non individuals that they are !! I have been driving for best on thirty years , never hurt nobody me People are better than the government want them to think. This agenda of destruction of people,s abilities has to stop. I will not be handed over to their controlling machines. This is MY world and life, not theirs !!

Hello !! you totally nail this subject in your post !! thanks for writing it really !! i would love to see this trend. That people talk here about it and what it truly means. Did you know that anybody who refuses to follow the lemming crowd on this one will simply see their insurance premium triple and becomae even unpayable as this is how they will force everyboy to comply and give up their " right " to drive and control their own life. So come on everybody give it all up, suck on that governments teet to the end. When they pull your cold dead hands from your steering wheel. Ask the journalist who had a date with a palm tree in Los Angeles while driving his surely hacked Mercedes, he was called Michael Hastings and no longer here,Oh but wait he had a serious problem with somebody in a high up office in D.C, so i guess that is a special event, or maybe not !!

So true. The government loves to make things so expensive that no regular Joe can afford it anymore. It's one of the easiest and least direct ways to control things. Just tax the hell out of anything deemed 'harmful' to society. Smoking and alcohol. Soon to be anything 'bad' for us. Candy, soda, meat.

Driving your own car? That's dangerous, up goes that insurance premium.

Plus, how many convenient 'software errors' are going to happen with these cars? Like Hastings.

yes you see my point then ? its how they will do it, they will just say that driverless cars are less dangewrous and yoiu driving is a danger to others. What crap eh?? But its how it will go sadly for sure. Why because most people are dumb and just don't understand what driverless cars will mean and represent. So as for Hastings, I saw a post on Youtube with two geeks openly saying that to hack any car was a piece of cake, I truly believe it was them that was hired to do this murder ! But then so many people are dying right now defending truth and LIberty in this world.

Of course we all drive manual transmissions don't we? And manually set the timing the, the choke, spark advance as well as the carburetor mixture? We want CONTROL! Auto-magic stuff takes that away from us.

i see no magic in sitting in a thing that propels us down the road at 100 clicks without control !! The thought of it sends goosebumps down my spine. Give me control or death comes to mind !!

No kill switch on my motorcycle :P
I will happily enjoy safer rides when all the folks who don't actually want to be driving are letting the computer do it for them ... and in normal/predictable ways. Bring on the autonomous cars (for those who want them)

Well if this madness takes off, which sadly due to the Idiocracy that seems to be taking over this world looks like an inevitability. Do you think motorcycles will be allowed to be driven ? I doubt it as their maneuvering will be to random and extremely difficult for theses junk mobiles of tyranny to judge as i see it !! I think the powers that be, will remove your right to use this and motorcycles and the beautiful muscle cars will become a thing of the past !!

Seems like the cost of driving a vehicle yourself would go up drastically. Since the government will throw you in a cage if you don't have insurance, you will find yourself paying very high rates to drive yourself.

That seems the most likely way that they will coerce people into the driverless cars, through their wallets. That, or some type of grandfathered system.

yes this is totally how it will work. The herding of fools over the cliff by their wallet, like always ! Plus if you drive a car your neighbor's will say you are insane and a public danger. you watch !! Seems weird to think that now, but i just know that,s how it will be !! People generally now are just so dumb !!

Hah! True man.

There are some people that need to go in their computer controlled cage to get from point A to B, and I won't miss'em.
