Yeah, putting it into context, “we the people” in The preamble really was like 30 representatives from the 13 colonies, authorized by their colony to go and amend the Articles of Confederation, who then got together and created a completely new document. 2 states refused to even sign it for more than 2 years. Those 30 “representatives” who authorized themselves to be “we the people” could not possibly have represented “the people” because women could not vote, non-land owners could not vote, blacks could not vote, and even if all those people could vote, I’m sure they would not have unanimously voted for that representative to go to Philly and go against his mandate to amend the Articles of Confederation, and form a new government under the Constitution.
