The theme here is summarized in the final sentence: “Liberty can flourish only when the order under law is restored.”
This is backwards.
As we learn from Adam Smith, Order flourishes by ordinary people following the rules of fair play and avoiding fouls, in their neighborhoods and communities, and that defined classical liberalism and became the rule of law.
Order is bottom up rule following motivated by the desire to get along with our neighbors, not an external imposed force. It survives populist mob excesses, even a civil war, the 1st WW, and Vietnam.
It will more likely than not survive the current disorder.
