The real problem in Canada is that it is really undemocratic, at least at the Federal level. The parties do a charade of having elections, but an unrepresentative consensus prevails in Ottawa on many issues that cannot be challenged by ordinary Canadians. I've read of talk of correcting this using proportional representation to allow additional parties enter Parliament and end the status quo.
Trudeau has the great advantage of note being Harper. The Harper Government was hostile to science. It required political preclearance of scientific findings by government employees. It made the National Household Survey voluntary response, reducing response rates to about 30%, resulting in useless data and millions of dollars wasted to produce them.

I also tend to agree that Canada is undemocratic and insanely wasteful with tax dollars. Thanks for your comment.
