Personal ownership is private property too, I think you mean land ownership. The definition of private property is to mix your labor with natural resources. This is a consistent definition that allows a continuum along all forms of private property. So land ownership was developed as a natural result of people mixing their labor with the land. So the innovation was the cultivation of plants.

This may have been inspired on lone wolves joining hunting packs for food. If you can cultivate wolves, you might get the idea of cultivating other animals and then plants.

Hunter-Gathering: All Consumption, No Production

What, exactly, is your definition of production?
They produced tools, but I don't know if they made capital investments to produce those tools more efficiently.
They also had ways to transform their food. Like cooking it, which was a huge improvement. Is that not some form of production?
