Recently, I heard 2 people arguing about who was bigger in their time:

Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson.

The debate was getting huge with each side putting up their own points.

Soon enough, a 3rd person came & said they were arguing about 2 different things.

Elvis was the King of Rock.

Michael was the King of Pop.

No need to compare.

And the debate fizzled out after that.

I'll be honest.

I don't know much about Elvis. I know a lot about Michael Jackson considering I've listened to a lot of his songs.

But with Elvis? Only heard about him from Uncle Jesse in Full house.

So I watched a documentary on him recently.

And was left feeling inspired.

He had a unique style which allowed him to have a quick meteoric rise.

Until.... he fell off from grace due to outdated song styles.

But luckily, he was one of the few artists who was able to launch a comeback & finish off with a bang.

Unfortunately, he didn't fully end his career in a bang.

Dude became fat, began doing drugs & hated performing non stop in Vegas.

And as I looked closer, I saw why that was.

He had a manager who used Elvis to profit.

Did he open up a lot of doors for Elvis?

Of course.

But did he also take advantage of Elvis?

Unfortunately.

His manager prevented him from launching a lot of creative songs because it broke the mold of what the record labels wanted.

For a big part of his life, Elvis was stifled due to this dude.

That's unfortunately the pain Elvis dealt with.

A creative genius who was stifled by authority.

I'm a firm believer of cutting out complexity with creative content.

Which is why I salute independent artists who make a living.

They didn't need a record label watering their stuff down.

As my brand grows, I will outsource a lot of tasks.

But one thing I will never outsource is the content.

That's a communication sin in my eyes.

Ask yourself.

Do you possess a creative talent?

Whether it's comedy, cooking, singing, storytelling, public speaking, etc.

If so, I recommend you double down on it & keep away from the profit vultures.

With the rise of social media, our generation has what Elvis didn't have.

'What is that?'

The power over our own narrative.

We don't need some corporation telling us what to do.

We can keep our businesses lean & follow our intuition.

Ask yourself.
