What does Providing Value Really Mean?steemCreated with Sketch.

You often hear the term 'value' getting thrown around a lot.

Person A has a fast growing DTube channel because he provides so much value!

Sound familiar?

'Yes, it does.'

Value is a tricky word because it is subjective.

What is considered valuable to one person may be considered a platitude to someone else.

A few years ago, when I was struggling in one of my engineering classes, I had a professor pull me aside for a pep talk.

He told me that 'The river did not cut through the rock with force, it cut through it with persistence.'

I was not going to get success immediately, but rather it was going to be a arduous process which required that I show up everyday.

That quote changed my life forever.

I founded it very valuable.

A few years later, one of my fraternity brother's was struggling with his engineering class. I thought it was the perfect time to change his life around forever as well.

So I shared the same quote that my professor had shared with me a few years earlier.

Response?

Get the fuck out of here Tony! You sound like a damn fortune cookie.

He found the quote invaluable.

Why?

Same words, but different responses.....

It's because of one major concept.

'Which is?'

Humans have different desires & needs.

In order to be the person who provides value, you need to first assess what specific problem that human is facing.

An engineer will probably not find a cheat sheet for Organic chemistry to be too valuable.

But give that engineer a cheat sheet for Calculus, now you have changed up the entire game.

Few ways to give value:

1. Knowledge:

There is so much information in this world, that knowledge is now abundant. It's so abundant that many people have quit looking for it. So step up! Filter the correct knowledge & give it to the person based off of their needs.

2. Skills:

I had a very successful friend who had stage fright. Well, it just so happened that I have been a Toastmaster for the past 5 years. So I shared my public speaking skill to provide him value.

3. Energy & attention:

We all have our own problems & worries. People will not say it, but they often just want a cheerleader on their side. Not someone who brings them more stress, but helps melt it away. To be honest, if you can share energy & attention to the right person at the right time, then this may be the most valuable of them all.

'Uh... Tony. So I am giving all this value away. But what do I get in return?'

You get respect.

And the world bends its will for respected people.

Give out the value without keeping score. But when you need something back, ask with EASE.

Don't be the person who just gives all day -

You're selfish towards your time.

Don't be the person who takes all day -

You're selfish.

Give 3x more than your receive. By the time you ask your friend to relieve something, they will feel guilty for not helping you out.

But more importantly, giving value is a matter of rewiring your mindset.

Back in the days, I used to be a stingy guy who would keep my knowledge to myself.

But nowadays, I share it on Twitter, email & blogs with ease.

And the more I share, the more I learn about myself.

The more I learn, the more I condition abundance mindset into my existence.

So can you.

As I said, knowledge is abundant.

And if you can keep sharing, you'll transform into a brand new person.

You'll be the hub of good energy & attract much more in the process.

So from here on out:

  1. Find out the problems others are facing.

  2. Be the problem solver & make the problem go away.

  3. Repeat steps 1-2, until you have a problem.

  4. Ask for assistance.

Give value & get value.

That's the law of energy.

Now get out there & provide.
