10 Ways to let go of Regrets

“Of all words of men, the saddest are, If Only” — Unknown

At the very moment it happened, you knew it.

You had done something you didn’t wish to. You are terrified that your world will come crashing down.

Regardless of what you and I did, it did felt like a thousand needles piercing through your guts, or even worse.

It was the most dreaded thoughts, “WHY DID I EVEN DO THAT?!” or “WHAT WAS I THINKING?!”

That was when we truly understand, actions HAVE consequences. Only through loss do we feel the pain of losing. But all of these should not have been too catastrophic.

Losing one thing may opens you up to something new

It may not be an immediate impact, but it could be a lesson that helps you to mature and think better in the future.

The point is, you WILL eventually move on and LET GO.

Human beings are smart, strong, capable and able to adapt to the worst environment. You and I will need to find new direction(s) which is(are) meaningful for us. To make up for the loss, we gain an understanding on what is more important and what to focus on, so we do not miss the next opportunity that comes.

It is hard to get over the thought of missing someone or letting a dream job slip through your fingers. But a loss is a loss, you can’t rewind time. What’s more important are those that remain. Other things that are equally meaningful.

How do you let go of regrets?

  1. To not allow regrets — Make every decision a well informed one with fullness of mind and heart. Mistakes are lessons to be learnt, not regrets.

  2. Think positive — Think of all the positives that may come from the situation.

  3. Do it differently the next time — Remember what are the choices made which lead to the bad result. Make wiser decisions next time.

  4. Time will heal the wounds — Just be patient and wait for the pain to fade.

  5. Find something better to replace it — Distract yourself and get involved on other activities.

  6. Share it with someone you trust — Sometimes, it feels better to rant it out. Don’t suffer in silence.

  7. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger — Grow out of the loss, you’ll get the immunity.

  8. Focus on rectify the situation — Depending on how much effort you are willing to put into it, you may be able to make things right.

  9. Accept that you’re a deeply feeling person — As much as you cry often, you laugh as much because you are a deeply feeling person.

  10. Live by your heart, not your head.

So, what helps you to let go of regrets?
