EMPATHY/COURTESY

in life •  6 years ago

I was hit by a conundrum today, which is actually a very common place incident in India. I was stuck in a bumper to bumper traffic today and Iwas in a bit of a rush myself. At the time a couple of pedestrians were trying to cross the road but the traffic was so bad that it was not even possible for them to cross as the cars were literally stuck to each other leaving no space for anybody to cross. And morever the pedestrians as usual were tryinig to cross from all over the place where there was not even a crossig available.

I felt that I should let the people pass since I cannot do anything but crawl at snail's pace. And no sooner I stalled to let them pass the gap created in fron of me was immediately filled by the driver of a golden car right next to me. And to make it worst the driver behind him tried to do the same thing thinking that he can do the same. At that time a feeling of anger welled up in me. (just digressing a little but think anger is a manifestation of fear). Now as i drove further I kept noticing this pattern all over the road. Although I see this pattern everyday and I indulge in it but this has made me think that what is the right thing to do.

Should I wait and show more empathy towards society or is it a good idea to be relentless in my pursuit of goals and reach them as soon as possible. Because as we all know that time is a limited resource and it is non renewable so latter seems to be the best option but a more spiritual self or maybe whatever is the right word to describe that state, tells me that fromer is the better option.
