Here’s a little task that my professor asked me to do long back. I thought it was damn interesting. Helped a bit in sorting out the priorities and chucking the unwanted clutter. You could try if you feel it would make a difference.
Write your own obituary.
Imagine that you’re lying there, dead, in a box, with cotton in your nostrils, and all your luxuries taken away from you, except for that one rupee coin on your forehead and garlands of different sizes. There are loved ones who aren’t able to control their tears, and there are relatives surfing the internet because they’re at the funeral only because they had to and not because they care.
Now, imagine that the people you’ve met in each and every part of your life are standing in a queue to talk a few words about you and how much you matter to them. The friends you’ve made, the colleagues you’ve worked with, the neighbors who had chai with you, your significant other half, your children and everyone else. They start talking. You just stay there and listen.
What would you want them to say ?
How would you want to be remembered?
What really matters ?
Go to your study table. Take a crisp white paper and write it down. Find the answer to these questions, and I guarantee you that you’ll feel a difference. Chuck your biases, let go of your inhibitions, take off your mask, pour your heart out, and you’ll see what’s really important in life.
Thank me later.
Always ask myself to get why I am here on this planet/thanks for your post.
