Life is like a lit candle floating precariously on a pan of water.
The light, inevitably, must be extinguished. If not by a gust of wind, random or otherwise, or a splash from the water on which it floats, then ultimately by running out of wax.
I saw the aftermath of what must have been a ghastly crash of two cars on the road yesterday. The police had cordoned the road segment off and were waving us past, in direct opposition to the traffic light's red state.
I believe that's actually illegal - I don't think the police can legally override red light instruction for civilians. Only emergency vehicles may pass at red, but I digress.
The point is, the crash looked catastrophic enough to have been fatal for some or all of the parties involved. It looked like a head-on collision at speed - the worst kind. I'd consider it a miracle if all parties survived.
I wondered, if 5 minutes before, the parties involved ever considered that they'd be in an incident like that, let alone die(?). The simple truth is, that could have been any one of us. Even the best drivers in the world get involved in accidents (not to be confused with crashes).
I, for one, am unusually aware of my mortality. I think of it frequently. Probably too frequently, to the point that it could actually be debilitating. A fruitful life at times requires risk and the self delusion of invincibility I think.
The overall point is, life is fragile and capricious. It can be taken within the blink of an eye. Poof! Just like that. It is from this fragility and brevity that life derives it's inherent value.
Peace and Love ✌🏿

Hello, @adetorrent. Totally agree with every word of yours. Life is a ratico, it's so ephemeral... The safest thing we have is death and many times we are not aware of it. I always think that we have to live intensely our passage through this path, we do not know when we will not be anymore, we must, as far as possible, leave a mark of good.
Hopefully a miracle has happened in that accident you describe and people have had a second chance to value life.
Someone gave me once: You only need to be alive to die.

Carpe Diem! I could never get that way into the thought but I often reflect about it but get distracted by the thought of my family. Often think of ourselves but when we flip it on someone we care about, it is even tougher. Every day we must be grateful for one more!
