Why I'm Happily Un-Married (Part II)

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hello Steemians!

Thank you so much for your support for the part I of the comic. Because the feedback is overwhelming, I'm presenting you with part II!

So once again, I've been working on this comic project for a while and I wanted to share this with you.
I know a number of your are pretty well into the marrying age and at this point in our lives, we've been asked questions like:

"When are you going to get married?"
"What about having kids? Your biological clock is ticking!"

So I've come up with a compilation to answer all of these annoying questions once and for all!
These are experiences of unmarried 20 to 30-somethings who are tired of their lives being a series of questions.

The post comes in three parts to accommodate all the reasons. Resteem and Upvote to support more art like this! Enjoy! :)

DISCLAIMER

This post does NOT exist to lead people away from marriage nor does it discourage people to marry. This serves not to question the commitment in marriage, but it exists to answer the reason why less and less young people are getting hitched. The answers have been edited for clarity and brevity, but these are real answers from real people– valid, true, and oftentimes, very amusing. Cheers!

Family dogs, cats, even your fish can be hard to let go of, especially since marriage means you’re moving away. I just love it when I come home to their wagging tails and excited faces, well, for cats, possibly just staring or purring? And for fish… uhm.. –D

Who needs marriage. I'm already a proud single mother of 13 children. I only give them the best. Whiskas pa rin mga ulul. I love my cat children. –Eponine, 26

I’m ugly. Nobody would like me. Ouch. –Papa Bear, 21

I need the money to buy musical tickets. 3 out of 10 musicals off my bucket list yoooo. –Eponine, 26

Lately, I have caught myself musing over this very thought. How could I not? Most of my friends my age have either married or have had children. My closest friend from college has two lovely children of her own, a boy and a girl. The boy is named after me, I think. My previous loves all have a version of happiness which does not include me in it. I have attended all their weddings. I have eaten all their cake. I have loved all of their children as if they were my very own. I never did like weddings, but for their sake I went and sat the whole six hours for each ceremony in the same itchy suit. And all of them have asked me the same question.
"Hey, Kiev, when are you—"
But I cut them off with,
"I've been itching for six hours straight, why isn't there food in the reception yet?"
They say to wait for a bit, and I do. - Kiev,22

Despite people telling me it’s going to be hard to settle down when a woman has a better career than a man (and they get intimidated, etc) at least I’m rich in case I never get married. –Isay, 26

I want to travel to new places, make new adventures , there’s so much much more to do... –Talisaro Chijo

Engineering. This explains everything. I don't have to put the details. –Anon, 20

True story. My cousins and I were just talking after his sister got hitched. We jokingly asked him “When are you going to get married?”, “To which he answered, until I can find someone who takes care of me like my mom. Unless my mom like her, I’m not going to commit. My mom does everything for me. She even knows where my briefs are.” Whether he was serious or joking eludes us, but amused us nonetheless. -D

I'm a gay dude in the Philippines... Nuff said. –Choco, 25

Legalities are complicated.- Mars

I also have a friend who says he won’t get married until he manages to get a gender re-assignment surgery, because he feels like he is living in the wrong body. He says until he can see who he really is, he can’t commit, even if there are people who wanted to be with him. –D

Wedding parties are stressful. My introverted soul can only take so much. When we talked about it (and decided 'not yet') we were thinking: Who will we invite? All the family members? All the officemates? What if I can't tell his aunts and uncles apart? I don't have to talk to all of them right? Can we just invite, like, 20 people? Do we have to dance in front of everyone? How do we deal with the inevitable corny honeymoon jokes? And dear Lord, do my parents have to give speeches? cringe – Hazel, 30

Art and food is life. –Angel, 24

Only heaven knows why I'm still single. I want to find what I want to do with my life first. I'm too crazy for most guys, I'm in a relationship with my job and I'm married to my bed. I'd like to think the right guy just hasn't arrived yet. But when he does we can both be crazy together (or at least, together alone) -Hera, 25

I don't have a boyfriend although I am a hopeless romantic. Well, if I would see myself 10 years later and I’m still unmarried, maybe it's because I am enjoying my single life too much or I was hurt because of a break up. But it’s nice not to worry about anything else except family and piled-up responsibilities. –Claire, 19

Boyfriend and I would rather save the wedding/marriage money for our families and for preparing for the future. Also, I get to buy lots of art materials and he gets to go mountain climbing. – Hazel, 30

I love the positiveness and the nice comics you draw!
I am 33 and a single woman. I want to have a family, but I also think I am having fun with my life.
It is like my brain is telling me to settle down, my heart is telling me to be by myself because I am not ready and my pussy is telling me to get my sexual instincts satisfied.

marriage is a choice, and people shouldn't be forced into it (or bugged as to when it will happen) haha. enjoying life is important. :D we only live once after all. cheers @sandrina.life!

I was at that thought of "happy unmarried guy" when I am just 25 to 30 years old. But the feeling of loneliness overwhelmed me now that I am 31. I miss the feeling of being love by someone who hugs and kiss you, makes you feel you are not alone and laugh with you in all of your crazy stuffs. Now that I found the live of my life. I feel complete... it is better to have someone that are always there for you.

To those who lost hope on finding real love, someone is out there waiting for you. Don't lost hope.

there is a time for everyone and everything. :) thanks for sharing @kingxerxesdex

If u want to unmarried then spiritual journey is good for you also.

true. part of it is greatly spiritual. mostly self-love :) cheers @spiritualpower!

We all love our body but we are not body we are soul and we forget about ourself

Very nicely put, and very commendable. Well marriage means a lot of things to different people and with the raw deal a lot into it are getting, some would say 'away with it '. But I believe it can still be beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

thanks @eleaza! i think it's also swell to get perspectives from those who are always rushed. :) haha.
