How to survive a street fight involving multiple attackers?

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

Unfortunately the fair fight is now very rare in today's world. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you have to protect yourself or others from attacking you, the odds of staying one against the other with the attacker is very small. Unlike domestic violence, most street confrontations and beatings have more than two participants. And the definition of school bullies also applies to attackers on the street - they are generally cowards and prefer to walk in large groups and attack a smaller group of people or a person they think is an easy target. That's why it's worth figuring out some tricks about self-defense, which could increase your chance of getting out of harmless situations. This is about the moment when protection is inevitable and you can not escape or stop the conflict.

All this is a topic of serious theory and training, but in this article I can only introduce you to the basic principles.

  1. Do not focus on a single attack
The most important rule is to strike and retreat, hit your opponent with all the strength once or twice, then immediately step back and provide space around you. Move around constantly. If it happens that you only fight with one striker or if you only focus on a particular striker, you become defenseless for the rest.

  2. Do not let them surround you
The ideal position in many attackers is to place them in line one behind the other, so theoretically you fight with one striker, not with a few at the same time. The worst position is to be in the middle of a circle formed by them. When you are constantly moving and have this in mind, do what you need to get the most out of your ideal situation and avoid anything that could lead you to the worst.

  3. Use your environment
From the psychological point of view, your back to be pressed against the wall is frightening, and the pressure in the corner may look even worse. But if you think, sometimes this option is the best possible. If you have a wall behind you, then no one can attack you on your back, and if you're in a corner, it's harder for more than one striker to attack you. However, this does not apply to all situations. If you are attacked by more than one attacker, winning a fight at all should not be your first priority - survival is the most important priority for the moment. If you see a place to escape, do not think, just run. In such cases, it is not good to push yourself into corners and walls. Any obstacle from the peg to the pavement can be used to prevent the attackers from reaching you together and also covering your back.

  4. Hold a stable position
To be knocked down on the ground is almost the worst that can happen because you are completely helpless against the attackers. Kicking can be a strong attack, but it also puts you at risk of getting out of balance if you do not hit correctly or someone is kicking you, so it's really not worth it. Keep both legs firmly on the ground.

  5. Carefully select your attacks
There is no point in hurting your opponent if you do not have the chance to win the battle or escape, because once you make your attackers angry, you can force them to get a lot more serious. Do not rush your attacks and use them only when you see that there is no other way out and when they will have the best effect, such as knocking attackers off or winning a few seconds to escape or make space.

If you are pressed to the ground and your attackers kick you, it is best to shrink in a ball to protect the important organs on the abdomen and face.

These tips will not make you a master of street survival, and hopefully you will never have to apply them. The best solution for street conflicts is to avoid. And reading articles is nothing without the real training in a gym.
