Rap Analysis: Young Jeezy- Thug Motivation 101

Air here with a new daily project I will be starting: analyzing the topics and themes of popular hip hop/rap songs. Today I will explore the content of Young Jeezy's title track of his debut album, Thug Motivation 101.
This tracks themes make themselves clear from the very beginning of the song. Jeezy wishes to show his listeners that he has come a long way from where he started: selling drugs in a poor neighborhood. His daily stress and worries have disappeared because of the money the rap game introduced him to, and he has the time and money to explore expensive hobbies while still taking care of the people who depend on him. Like so many trap classics, this song highlights the influence growing up in the hood had on the artist. For Jeezy, it made him cold and serious, putting his own money over everything else. Both the good and bad parts of the life the artist portrays are laid out in front of the listener in this track. It is made very clear that making it in the street comes with a price. Some things however must be kept sacred and never be given up though according to the message of this song. Jeezy states that his moral code has never changed; he kept it fair and honest in the dope game and the rap game.
