Christmas and Crisesmes

When I read @tony-marshall’s ‘Not so merry xmess’ it reminds of something I wrote two years ago about the merriment of Christmas vs the mourning of others at the same time. In a time like this, while many are rejoicing some others are seriously hurting. They see no reason to rejoice.

I particularly identified the scene about the story about the birth of Jesus Christ wherein Herod the king at the time wanted the child Jesus dead but eventually caused mourning in the city of Jerusalem. I imagined families whose kids were gruesomely murdered hearing about the celebration of the birth of Jesus feeling really bad that it was in the same period their sons were killed.

I raised a question of how to deal with such people in their yearly sorrow as they remember the tragedy that befell them in this season. @tony-marshall has really answered it and he talked from experience. It is better to just let them be and try to understand with them.

So, as you rejoice in this holiday, remember those who are grieving and console them if you can. But if you don’t know how just let them be so as not to fire up their grieve.
