Paradox of the new parent

in life •  7 years ago

These first 4 months of parenthood have been so wild.

It's such a paradox.

• Feeling like days pass in a blink.. while moments like this one stretch a few seconds into infinity.
• Structure and daily routines are more critical than ever...yet each day they get a hard reset and we start from scratch.

• Having him in my arms is as transcendental as cradling god/an angel/a visiting alien...yet when he screams it feels like an ambulance driving down my central nervous system.
• WTF? Who tore out my definition of control and replaced it with the one for surrender?

• Experiencing more anxiety and fatigue in 4 months than I have in 10 years..while having laughed, cried and smiled more than my entire life.
• Accelerated maturity and aging...paired with a plunge into the fountain of youth and a liberating return to innocence.

And it's just getting started.

Aww I remember those times with my daughter. They were the most wonderful times of my life. I remember being so sleep deprived and feeling so helpless sometimes, when she cried. I would give anything to have those days back just for a few minutes. My daughter is 12 now.
Welcome to steemit, btw! Zipporah gave you her seal of approval and that's all I need to know to know you're awesome! ❤️

You're just the loveliest, sweet Serena. ;) Thanks for givin' my friend some much-deserved love! <3

My friend has a new baby, and this is exactly how I feel when I hold him. Especially since I'm in a dark night of the soul, holding a brand new human is just....

Being a parent is so intense, rewarding, hard, and wonderful. Keep taking deep breaths and enjoy every minute you can. (Also, crying and feeling lost is totally normal, says a mother of twins.) Huge support and blessings to your family!

aaawn! this warmed my heart!
baby laugh it's good for the soul, it's proved by science! (my science)
good vibes to all of you, u seem like a lovely little family <3

awwwwww

You are so smart to make video's of when they are that small and write it all down. They grow so fast but as a parent of a 30 year old photo's like this makes me remember times like this like it was yesterday.

Thank you for that!
