The Biggest Hero: "We Need People Who Don't Know Shit About Hope"

in life •  7 years ago

This is the cover of The Pro, a fantastically profane and yet, extremely real graphic novel by Garth Ennis.

What's it about?

A prostitute who's a single mom gains super powers.

She proceeds to fight crime by joining a league of super heroes who are parodies of the Justice League in the DC Universe.

Hilarity ensues of course:

  • The pro uses her powers to bang as many guys as possible to make money.
  • She pisses on a villain in front of the United Nations.
  • She sucks off the league's leader, their version of Superman.

And many more funny shit!

But here's a panel which stands out the most to me:

I found the lines to be thought provoking, so much so I think it's actually true.

So-called heroes are detached from the harsh realities of life.

They help, but then their idea of helping attracts more bad guys.

And I dare say heroes enjoy the thrill of a fight more than anything.

So we need people who think they're worth nothing, but they still fight anyway.

They don't know shit about hope.

That's inspiration for us people.

What do you all think?
