America gets a bad rap from the rest of the world because of the huge range of foods we serve up here, but it doesn’t mean the whole country is overweight and unhealthy. In fact, the USA is home to some of the fittest cities on earth and huge communities of people who dedicate their lives to staying healthy.
Each year reports come out about the fittest cities across America, and some cities just seem to stay high up on the list.
Washington
Washington is one of the healthiest places you can live in America. Take a stroll through the city and you’ll joggers galore, with members of the press, politicians and even students keeping on their toes when it comes to their health.
The city is packed full of attractive public parks, making it ideal for jogging and cycling, making staying fit and healthy much less of a chore. Not only that, but farmer’s markets have been popping up all over the city recently, giving locals access to fresh food. There are of course health food shops on every single corner of the street, too.
Minneapolis
Minneapolis is almost on par with Washington, regularly coming second in the annual reports of the healthiest cities in the country. The city is full of markets and parks, there are loads of recreational spaces ideal for jogging, walking and cycling, and the health-conscious atmosphere is evident the minute you arrive.
San Francisco
San Francisco is another amazing example of how a city doesn’t have to be bogged down by ugly streets and smog. SF has been considered one of the fittest and healthiest cities in the United States since 2009 and it just keeps getting healthier and healthier.
Sacramento
Maybe it’s something about California, but it seems the state’s cities have a lot of healthy people. Sacramento has been slowly growing in the ranks over the last few years and is now within the top five as a result of its many dog parks and regular parks, ideal for exercising and socializing, as well as playgrounds and other recreational facilities that allow people young and old to get out and exercise.
Perhaps it’s something about the weather that encourages people to be healthy!
