We all are trapped in vicious circle of 9-5. We are running away from the cobweb of everyday life to find solace. We are escaping the reality only to discover darkness at the end of the tunnel. All your energies of 20s are pit falling into insignificant things.
These are the things you must be doing now so as to not regret in your 40s:
Self respect above surrender.
1.1 We over do this. We give too much respect to others. We surrender to them. In this pursuit, we lose ourselves.
1.2 The other person doesn't give a dime about you feel.Start Saving and investing.
2.1 Investing in ETF, mutual funds, small saving instruments, consumer derivatives will be a good start.
2.2 Alas, the basics of investing is not taught in schools in India and the "responsible" adult has to figure it out himself and through experience.
Maintain a routine.
3.1 Have discipline. Sit at one place which you call your workplace. Make that place your war room and your place of worship.Eat healthy.
4.1 Have some greens, juices and fruits included in your daily routine. It will help you maintain good amount of macronutrients in your body.Don’t smoke for coolness.
5.1 “The group effect” is common in psychology where we do some things because the group does it. It is really harmful. It strips off your individuality.
Have a group of ambitious people around you.
6.1 “The friends maketh a man” cannot be over-emphasized.
6.2 Be with people who inspire you. Be in relationships which makes you go even further.Wake up or sleep at 5 AM.
7.1 The power of 5 has been documented by various TED talks and motivational speakers.
7.2 This is an ideal time to kickstart or end your day.
Don’t chase girls.
8.1 This is the most useless thing you can ever do to perfectly ruin your career.
8.2 You will become the Picasso of ruining your life and still call it an art.Make your parents proud.
9.1 You are because they were. You are a part of them. Respect them. Make them proud. In India, familial bonds are sacred.Help a poor with skills.
10.1 Don’t help a poor in monetary terms. He may spend it recklessly. Teach the poor man’s children basic books. Teach them about basic maths that would help them deal with daily life. Many villagers even don’t know how to count currency. It will be a good start.

Above all, have a purpose, a 'why' to give yourself direction. Money, wealth, things, are meaningless unless there is a reason, something to plan for.

Good points, @amank. I quit my job as a copyeditor because I've always wanted to be a musician. I knew I didn't want to live a life of regrets. I now study piano at Dr. A.R. Rahman's KM Music Conservatory in Chennai. Based on experience, I can identify with your points about not chasing girls and saving money. Keep up the good work!
