Power of Words

While I was growing up I had always been told that the pen is stronger than the sword. This is something that I feel is even more relevant today. What is written on the Internet can do so much damage and yet we don’t do research to find out if the thing that we have read is true. We need to make sure that what we are learning about is something that is real. Not something that someone wrote to just add fear and hate to our world.

I hear more and more about children being bullied in our schools. That it can get so bad that elementary students are committing suicide. What can they be going through that they feel their only option is to die? These kids are supposed to be having fun and making new friends. We need to protect our kids and make them feel safe even if it's from other kids.

I recently was buying a cake for my daughter’s birthday party and had originally been told that it was going to cost one price. When I went to pick it up the price was different. When I asked the person who helped me, she said that was the price she was told to put. I explained that it wasn’t what I had been told before. She gave me the opinion of she didn’t care and I could take it or leave it. What was worse was my daughter was there and she could tell I was upset. So she started to say that she didn’t need a cake. I explained that she was going to have a cake and that it wasn’t about the money it was that I felt as if they had lied to me. When we got up to the cashier I told her what had happened and without blinking an eye she charged me what I had originally been told upon ordering the cake. It that act of kindness it raised my and my daughter's spirits. I felt like not only had I been heard but also that it mattered to uphold the store's integrity. I was so overcome with emotion that I actually teared up a bit. That woman made such a difference in my day and I am very grateful for it.

Watch what you say for it truly can hurt someone. You don’t know how that person’s day was and even just one little thing can brighten up their day or turn it into one of their darkest. Let's try and raise each other up and make things better for everyone. Even one small act can make a huge difference in making things amazing.
