Let me introduce you to Cleveland .........it is a nice balance of ocean and country

I really like Cleveland, it is a pretty place that is tucked away from busy Brisbane city sitting near the western shore of Moreton Bay. There are some beautiful homes everywhere with a mixture of young families and older retired retirees. It is well populated with about 14,500 people. I am told that when kids grow up many move to Brisbane for Uni and jobs so Cleveland continues to be a quiet country kind of place. The Redland Council Chambers are located in Cleveland.

We have been visiting occasionally for a number of years and yesterday was one of those fun visits.

First here is a bit of information about Cleveland. It is an outer subdivision of Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland. Cleveland is in the Redland Shire and situated about 25 kms east-south east of central Brisbane. It was first seen by Captain James Cook in 1770 but it wasn't until 1847 that it was proclaimed a township but a settlement was not started due to the nearby Moreton Bay Colony. For a short period of time it was considered that it might be better spot for a capital city of Queensland but this was scrapped when the Governor of the time, Sir George Gipps sank waist deep in the mudflats.

It only takes 1 hour 30 minutes to drive to Cleveland from The Sunshine Coast. Lunching is the reason for our trips to Cleveland. It is a fun couple of hours chatting and enjoying the view and food in the Raby Bay Marina area with some good friends. It is the very attractive touristy part of Cleveland that has a Marina, cafes, shops and apartments. Many retirees live around the Marina.

Here is the beautiful Bay with the big boats surrounded with apartments.

There are well planned boardwalks surrounding the Bay.

Here is Hog's Breath Cafe with a great view of the Bay, very typical of the other well positioned cafes

We walked up the main street of Cleveland the businesses like supermarkets, banks and small businesses are located here. It has a lovely small town feel.

There was a balanced mixture of cement and gardens, very appealing to the happy wandering visitors snapping photos.

Cleveland has a nice atmosphere.

Cheers
