Fiestaware - My Favorite Dishes

in life •  6 years ago  (edited)

As I mentioned the other day in my love it/shove it post, I LOVE Fiestaware! Perhaps you have never heard of it, or maybe you have seen it around, but it hasn't ever really caught your eye. I would love to show you the sheer beauty of Fiestaware in this post!

Years ago, I was introduced to Fiestaware. I don't even remember when it began or when I started my collection. As you know, I love Spanish, so the name was the first draw. Fiesta, in Spanish, means party! That is exactly how I see these dishes - as a colorful party! When we moved to Panama, I knew I had to bring them with me. As I was unpacking, I kept thinking, "this is the last piece," but then I would find another! My collection is pretty much always growing!

I did a little research and found out there are around 49 colors of Fiesta Dinnerware. Some were only made for a few years, some were made long ago and no longer in production, some were radioactive, some are still being made. It appears that only 15 colors are still being produced. This is said to be the most collected dinnerware in the world. Fiesta was started in the 1930's.

I started collecting my pieces around the time I graduated from college I think. I loved the bright, bold colors of the dishes and how nice they looked on display. I still love all of the colors and we even put them up on shelves in our kitchen here in Panama. All of the pictures in this post are my dishes from my Fiesta collection. As you can see, I really am a huge fan!

Over the years, I have even been able to collect a few of the rare pieces. I love the lilac ones, but they were only produced for 2 years in the 1990's. I was able to buy a couple of pieces of it off of eBay. I also had one of the radioactive colors, but I left it in Texas with my mother-in-law. She started collecting after she saw how pretty my dishes were!

To tell when a piece of Fiesta was produced, they began putting a stamp on the back of each piece with a letter combination. You can look up the different letters and see when the color was produced. They also still stamp into the ceramic part of the dish on larger pieces.

I just found out they have a blog as well! That may be some of my afternoon reading! You can also read a chart to see what color Fiesta you are! Looks like I am lapis. I better make sure I have some in that color!!

I went to a restaurant once and saw that they had made a wall out of their broken Fiesta pieces. While it is sad to break them, it made the coolest wall! I even saw that I could buy broken pieces on eBay. Before we moved from Texas, I had a box of broken pieces I hoped to do something with, but they didn't make the move. I did, however, sell them on craigslist! Ha!

I love having people over and using my lovely dishes! Perhaps someday, you will make it to Panama and dine on my Fiestaware! Until then, you can probably find some at your local department store, Tex-Mex restaurant or shop for some on eBay!

I have always lved Fiestaware for the beautiful colours! The only thing keeping me from getting some was the heavy weight of the pieces. I still use the old faithful Corelle!

Yes, some of the pieces are definitely heavy. I wonder if they've maxed out some of the shelves that we have put up. We found a few more pieces, but had to put them in a different cabinet because of weight. But I still love them! :)

I do love pottery

haha! Fiestaware has a special spot in my heart - my physics teacher in high school was hardcore into finding the pre-1980 ones, solely because of the uranium content. So his little radioactive collection stared at us whilst we slaved away at tests XD

They are quite vibrant and beautiful, though!

Oh I love this! That is awesome! I had one of the red/orange that was older and I believe it had some radioactive properties, but I left it in Texas with my MIL. ;) Too funny that your physics teacher had it in the classroom!! I just love it!

Gosh they are so pretty - the lilac one would be my favourite but they are all nice and bright :)

I love the lilac too. You definitely pay for that color. I've only been able to get 2 salad plates and one cup and saucer. All of them have a little dimple or something, so they aren't perfect, but they are still great. I'm the only one allowed to use that color. I don't want the kids to break it!! :)

I like the way Fiestaware looks, but it is a little too thick for my taste. Very nice photos, though! One nice thing about Fiestaware—all those vibrant warm color tones!

My mother collects red Hall china, which is similar, but older. The Aladdin Teapot is my favorite piece :-)

I'm using some really pretty Denby earthenware. Expensive? At one point, maybe! I have about a set and a half that my mother found at a second-hand store for $10. It's in immaculate shape!

Wow, good find from your mom! Looks like some nice dishes! :) I had to look up both sets of dishes and I like both of them! It is fun to collect something like this I think. I have found some thrift-like stores in a town near me. I check every once in awhile in their dish area. :) Never know what might make its way to Panama. Found my mom a few plates handpainted in Finland (they have visited there and have friends there, so a cool memento for them). :)

Wow, the hand-painted finish stuff sounds ice, too! My Denby is an older pattern with an interesting pattern. I'll have to take a photo of it, sometime, when I can find some gloopy dessert for it. Everything looks better with dessert.

Buena idea

I wasnt aware of the term fiestaware but after this post and seeing the cool well warm and vibrant colors I want some

You should get some. Start collecting! It's lovely! :) Your wife will love it.

ohh yes she will I will be looking out for them

Bravo! I love fiesta ware too! Great post @apanamamama

Thanks! It is definitely my favorite! :)

I have a friend who collects and I've been coveting her collection for years. I know there are sales and things like that (actually I know several collectors now that I think about it)...our dishes were wedding presents from almost 11 years ago and so many are chipped, but we are getting ready to do some work on the house and a complete kitchen remodel, so I see Fiesta ware in my future!!! I can't wait - Love your collection!

Oh do share if you get some Fiesta! I just love mine!! :) My SIL also collects, but she has only certain colors. I love them all. :)

will do - I love the colors too - but I'm partial to greens and purples - but they're all pretty. We were looking at appliances tonight - omg, I hope we have some $ left over for any kind of dishes at all when all this is said and done - shocking! I better get used to it though!

Yeah, I can understand that having to redo a kitchen is expensive. We had to do that when we moved to Panama - new fridge, stove, etc. Yikes!! Hopefully there will be some leftover for new dishes!!

Oooh! Those are exactly what I've been wanting! Right now we just have some Corelle since we got rid of our heavy stoneware before the move. I wasn't really in love with my old set anyway. I had like them when we were first married, but they just seemed to bulky for little kids.

My husband and I have been talking about replacing the Corelle with something more substantial. These Fiesta pieces might just be the trick! I love the teapot and the pitcher too!

They are great dishes! I don't let my kids use them too often. They have stainless plates. ;) Ha!

Wow, that is something! And the colors are nice.
I have built my own house when I was 21 (ten years ago) so everyone gave us sets of dishes. We use them daily, they are not 100% on our taste, but why throw something that is good. The problem is that I never buy something to replace them, unless all of them are broken, and at this rate, I see myself going 10 more years with those sets :D

Lol - I can understand that. Why replace something that works ok! :) 10 years until new dishes - wahoo! ;)

Wowow @apanamamama that is very unique and interesting way of your love to fiesta crockery set. ....they are nice and beautiful no doubt...... i am especially like the colour variant that these are available......Keep steeming!!

Thanks! I love them as well. They are great dishes and oh so colorful.

The colors are amazing! It looks like a fiesta! @ironshield

I know - my kind of fiesta - bright and colorful!! :)
