Today Is Mother's Day in Panama and It Is a National Holiday! - Fun Friday by A Panama Mama

in life •  7 years ago

Today in Panama, it's Mother's Day and everyone is off to celebrate. They declare it a national holiday. Stores are closed, government is closed, and everyone celebrates moms everywhere! I am used to celebrating Mother's Day in May when the US does, so we did not do much today. We did not even leave home!

I got to spend the whole day with the people who made me a mom. Well, I do that pretty much every day...but that is by choice!

I do not even know when (or if) Father's Day is celebrated here. It is not a national holiday! That does not seem very fair, now does it? But, I sure am grateful for these kids AND their dad!

What a fabulous day you had! Look at all those smiles!

Yes, the kids are usually happy (although not all are terribly photogenic). ;) Thanks for stopping by! :)

I LOVE the pictures. It's nice to put a face to the name now. How great that they make it a national holiday. That's how it should be :) It's too commercialized in the Western world and should be just so mothers can have a great day with the family really. Now I know more than ever that I have to visit Panama!

Believe me it is commercialized. We made the mistake of going to David (2nd largest city in Panama - 1 hour from us) on Wednesday to do some shopping. Everyone was out buying mom a gift. The stores were packed. And there were wrapping paper stands set up all over the sidewalks. The paper wasn't Christmasy. It was all flowers and hearts! Pretty crazy, but they take mom seriously here since everyone has one. ;) Ha. But you definitely still do need to come. :)

Oh, it's definitely on my 'to do list' lol.

cute pics I love that it is a national holiday, should be in the states if we celebrate presidents day, lol

I guess with Mother's Day falling on a Sunday in the US, most people have the day off. Well except pastors, waiters, most businesses... Hm, I guess mostly teachers and government businesses get that day off. ;) Thanks for stopping by!! :)

It's great to know about the cultures of other places. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoy the day!!!Happy Mother's Day @apanamamama

Thanks so much for stopping by and the comment. :)

Happy mothers day to them @apanamamama

Thanks! :)

Happy Mother's Day!

Thanks!! :)

What nice pictures! Looks like you have a fun crew!

They are definitely a couple of crazy kids. ;) Some don't enjoy having their picture made as you can see. ;) Lol.

You missed your day to shine, 1 day a year is not enough to celebrate Mothers, We should have Mothes week :-)
take advantage of it next year!
Cheers

We usually look like a parade every where we go, so getting out in Mother's Day crowds doesn't sound too terribly fun. ;) Ha. Maybe I'll do the US Mother's Day in May and have my husband take us out to eat. And then celebrate again in December! :) Thanks for stopping by!
