I woke up tired (5 hours sleep) and hungry and made a breakfast smoothie while my oldest got ready for school. Now that I've been doing a little more research I've seen, in forums, that smoothies are not technically compliant. This is because it's too much of a treat? Whole30 is meant to break habits in unhealthy eating patterns but I feel like a green smoothie is doing me more help than not. So I'm ignoring that rule.
Kale, banana, strawberries, mango, almonds.
Lunch came a little earlier than normal because I was hungry ... again. I think I started cooking at 10:45am. I made cabbage again because it reminds me of the delicious hibachi I had in Taiwan when I lived there [for 11 months many years ago]. Of course, I can't use soy sauce.
I ended up making two servings of this.
Cabbage, ghee, olive oil, salt, pepper, avocado.
Now, I've been getting a lot of great comments with a lot of helpful information on these W30 updates. It's making me take a real look at the food choices I've been making here so far. My early dinner included sweet potatoes which aren't paleo compliant but it is Whole30 compliant. I'm thankful for this discrepancy because I felt like I needed something filling. However, I now realize that my body was really craving energy that usually comes in the form of sugar or carbs. Protein would have been a better option. I did fry eggs which I'd been wanting to avoid on this diet but I decided to break that [personal preference] rule too.
Part of what Whole30 is meant to do is make you look at your old patterns and identify why you have them. I'd say my relationship with food isn't unhealthy, I just allowed sugar and carbs before (but not in excess). The major problem/pattern that I am noticing now is that I'm struggling because I don't enjoy planning. I could be successful in so many more areas of life if I would just embrace structure.
Later I took the kiddos to met @codydeeds and his dad at a wing restaurant. I hadn't planned on staying. I was going to take my oldest to a bookstore and leave the baby with dad and gramps. The baby decided to cling really hard and I ended up staying and ordering salad. I'm sure this bacon is not pasture raised etc.... fail.😟
I really wanted a creamy or sugary dressing on this.
Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, red onions, bacon, eggs, olive oil, red wine vinegar. (I didn't eat the tomatoes)
Afterward we spent an hour in a bookstore and headed home. After the kids went to bed, I made this.
Eggs, ghee, avocado, spinach.
I had a mild headache for most of the day. My dreams say I accidentally ate some sugar at some point a few days ago (boo, cracker barrel grilled chicken!) and that my elimination system is clearing mucus (yay!). [I'm a dream analyst] They also say I need to have more fun but that's for another post.
I'm going to do some weekly meal planning tomorrow and see what comes of it.
Thanks for all of the advice and encouragement.
Respect!

OK, so now I'm starving! Planning is a pain, but I guess necessary a great deal of the time, especially when you have children. I know that I use to live my day with my planner/date-book at my side all day. Children live in the moment. We adults try to plan out everything, because it gives us a sense of control in a busy hectic world. Sometimes we need to just go for it (Cracker barrel). OK, so I'm still hungry . Making a plan to visit the frig. I could eat everything in your photos right about now! Thanks, April for the great food information. It helps.

Thanks! I dislike structure because it requires discipline. At heart I'm a free spirit type. However, I'm learning that the key to any success is to pay extra attention to your challenge areas. I'm going to have to focus and be disciplined in order to have everything else I want.

The best form of energy is fat. Protein (which is really good for other things) barely counts until it is converted to glucose (gluconeogenesis), and sugar is the worst. Many people on low carb diets experience fatigue until they learn to keep their fat calories up.

Your knowledge is so helpful. I FEEL like I've been doing pretty well in the fat department. Lots of avocados and ghee and olive oil.

Are you logging? It's probably not necessary given your menu plans, but it might show you when things are off and why.

If only it were that easy! You probably know I mean one of those webpages like fitday where you put in amounts and they give you back your nutrient values. I end up not doing that because I don't like measuring my recipes.
But it clears up a lot of mysteries.
