People are giving poisoned candy to kill children in the streets like drug dealers and spreading death. A whole squad of illegal immigrants guerrillas is hidden in the heart of the not ravaged Amazonia waiting to begin they plot and domain our country. Diseases never discovered are killing dozens of peoples in a place about no one ever hears. The president of the Banco do Brasil of the USA (really!) say that corrupt politicians are saving money there and no one does nothing about it. At least, that is what the audio messages that I receive on my app say.
That is true! Someone who saw everything told this person that is a friend of the person who records the audio and sends it. And we believe it. We maybe don't even really believe it, but, "who knows?" we ask ourselves.
We are living in this post-truth era for quite a while but, just now, everyone is into it. My mother sends me messages of warning every day. In the office, the group is messages like this, even about the health care system and the physicians send it!
And then, Netflix launch 13 Reasons Why. I didn't like it, my wife likes it, but this is not the point. Sure, the series have a lot, I really mean a lot, of problems about suicide but you could enjoy it, it is fiction and made to entertainment.
After the huge success of the series, a challenge surges, a game of death, the frightening Blue Whale suicide game. This game exploded here in Brazil. Everyone talks about it, everyone knows about it, every frail credibility media publish cases after cases the game caused, and no one searches.
I am pretty sure that it was a hoax. All the Russian problem and footage of suicides circulating as if they are new causes a rustle. Then, real cases appear.
The post-truth leave the Oxford definition of "relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief" and begin to arise as real truth (the redundancy is necessary).
Suicide is a very sensitive subject. We cannot speak about it in any way, and we sure can't ever tell people how to do that (listen Netflix?). For decades it's been known. Since 1774!
Sometimes, those fictions could be funny, could sound harmless and make you think you are doing a good thing sharing it (who knows, right?). The internet is an excellent tool, but we have to use it wisely. Always check the facts. Please.
