The patriarchal society as we know today it is quite recent. It arose a little over 10,000 years BC - Recent, if we consider that the man is about 300 thousand years old. Until then, society was dominated by matriarchal clans, where the woman held a superior position to the man, having tribal authority, delegating to the man the role of hunting and protecting. Men and women have lived this way for thousands of years. This contributed to women developing more of their senses and their specialties, since they had to produce food, give birth and raise children, managing the tribe and still survive in a hostile and dangerous prehistoric world.
As thousands of years advanced, this scenario changed. For reasons I do not know, society has moved to a patriarchal domination, in which, from a leadership position, the woman has ended up in a position of inferiority towards the man. From leader to being repressed and diminished. For centuries they could only perform domestic activities - less than 100 years ago, for example, it was still strange to imagine that a woman could attend college and vote. Even today, this thought of inferiority and incapacity of the woman in relation to the man still leaves traces. Brazilian president, Michel Temer in his speech at the commemoration of women's day in 2017 talked about the importance of women in society saying:
- In the economy, the woman also has great participation. No one is better able to indicate the price mismatches in the supermarket than the woman. No one is better able to detect economic fluctuations than women, for the domestic budget, "
I do not blame the president for not being able to have a better argument about the role of women in society. Simply because we do not have many examples of female influence in society. Apart from examples of women's leadership in private institutions (which are few still), we do not have many examples of female figures in government leadership. Doubt? Then look and tell how many women you can see in the Brazilian parliament in this photo:
I found 3 (maybe 4). Of course, as I said before, there is a whole historical factor that contributes to this. A short time ago, as I said, women did not vote or attend college. But I believe that worse than delaying the female presence in leadership places, all those restrictions and impositions of where the woman should be or where she should not be, contributed unconsciously to society's doubts about women's ability to lead. And lead efficiently.
But yes, women are indeed capable of leading. And 2 main and essential reasons come to my mind that justifies them to be able to contribute in a way that for men is much more difficult.
Dialogue
"In primitive times, it was up to women to take care of their children and keep the group cohesive. In this sense, developing the language may have brought benefits insofar as this has increased the capacity for argumentation, communication, and consideration of women, " - Marcus Vinicius Minucci, associate professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Unirio)
We all know that women naturally tend to talk more than men, which can make them better negotiators. They express themselves better and are able to position themselves better than men. One of the problems we have in the world today is precisely the lack of dialogue among leaders. It's no wonder that President Trump express his position about the G7 meeting through a message on Twitter
Flexibility
"In general women conduct negotiations more cautiously and patiently, but without leaving firmness to their goals. They analyze more carefully the possibilities, the consequences and the repercussions of the situations "Lucas Nogueira, division manager of Robert Half.
Because they are more sensitive and have a broader view of things in relation to men, women are able to understand the other side better in their dealings. Because they are not as proud and self-centered as men, they are better able to see and evaluate better alternatives, being more willing to yield becoming better diplomats.
Last week the Spanish government announced its leadership and for the first time in history was announced a majority-female cabinet. A government that will differentiate itself not only for this detail but which will certainly bring these essential characteristics of any fair government and leadership distinguishing it from governments dominated by men. It is a government that represents any country and the world. Today, we have no more reason to justify male domination and the absence of women in positions of power. Considering that the equal contribution of the two genders only contributes positively to any society where there is a democracy.
