Metallica loves Denmark
Denmark means a lot for Metallica. This is of course because the drummer of Metallica is danish. His name is Lars Ulrich, and he basically started Metallica with James Hetfield (leadsinger). Lars went to USA to become a professionel tennis player, but feel in love with music, so he put an advertisement in the local newspaper in San Francisco saying he was looking for bandmembers. Same did James Hetfield. Pop and rock dominated these advertisements and in the "Metal" section there were only two advertisements. James and Lars. They got in contact, started playing, and the rest is history. Metallica is now the biggest metal band in history.
Metallica calls Denmark their second home, because they have spent a lot of time in Copenhagen recording, and everytime they are here they stay for longer than they would stay in other countries. They even thanked "Remoulade" in the "special thanks to" section at the back of the amazing album "Master of Puppets". Remoulade is a sort of dressing. I bet they liked it, since they made a special thanks to it.
My experience
It was 2009. I was 16 years old, and I had just made masturbation my new hobby, but that has nothing to do with the story. I was going to my first ever concert with Metallica with some friends of mine. We were all excited and the topic of the conversation was trying to figure out the whole setlist which for a 16 years old seemed easy. You know, I had been studying the last couple concerts. So I was 100 % sure I could predict it. Turned out it was pretty difficult. Fast forward to the concert. I was in pure ecstasis for two hours that felt like 15 minutes, or 5 hours. I am not sure. When the concert ended, James Hetfield and the other bandmembers was throwing plectrums for the audience to catch, and I fucking got one! Normally they land on the floor for people to fight for, but I catched mine mid-air. Instantly shouting to my friends "I got one!, I got one!" I felt amazing! 10 minutes later I found out that they probably throw hundreds of plectrums, so it wasn't that special...
Breaking the law
After the concert ended, my friend and I was walking around trying to find more plectrums that might have been left behind on the floor, but everything had been sweeped. We are on the edge of leaving before a guard made her exit from the closed off area. She left the fence open. I looked at my friend and I said "On 3 we go through that fence and up through those stairs" Pointing towards some stairs leading up to another closed of area about 30 meters from the open fence.
"One....two..three..." Casually we walked through that fence and up through those stairs. We were in shock. How come we didn't get caught. There were about 20 guards and none of them saw us. This was meant to happen. So up the stairs we went, trying to figure out where to find Metallica or some of the warm-up bands. Five minutes later we were talking to one of the bandmember of Mastodon. He asked us "How did you get in, I don't see your pass"..I answered "We kinda jumped the fence" With a beer in his hand, he looked at us and said "Cool guys.." The door was open in to their backstage room, and as I have imagined all rockstars doing ,they were playing their instruments in front of four or five girls while drinking beer. Just warming up their fingers before going to the hotel room where they probably will play something else.
Time went by, and we stole a cola from the buffet. We talked to this 10 year old asian guy who had met the whole band. He looked like it was just another day at the office.
We had been watching another closed of area, which made that area the closed off area, within the closed off area surrounded by the closed off area. I felt like something exciting happened inside this area. So we went for it...But we got stopped. FUCK!
A guard stopped us and asked for our passes
We answered "Yes...Ehm...We have them, they are in...ehm...eh...in..our pockets"
He asks "Okay, let me see them"
Busted!
As we are being kicked out, without any meeting with Metallica we spot Lars Ulrich walking out from a room. We are shouting like two teenage boys do when they see their idol. Pathetic.
"Lars!..Lars!...LARS!!!!" And guess what?...
Lars stops the guard and takes time to talk to us. What a gesture. I am still grateful.
After watching the picture again, Lars looks like he fucking hated it. Maybe it was because I was taller than him. We will never know. Or does his smile actually looks real? I dont know. You judge.
In the end it dosen't matter. I met him.
Sometimes you have to take some chances to experience something amazing.
