I've actually found that, even amidst the mountains of spam, the conversations I have with people here on steemit are much more civil and intellectually rewarding than the inevitable flame wars that plague facebook and twitter. Somehow knowing our words and thoughts are worth someone else's (monetary valuable) upvote - or not - seems to make people say more thought-through, well-articulated and less inflammatory things.
