My home town where I so far have lived all my life. A town that will always have a piece of my heart.
Compared to the rest of the world, Stavanger is like a village. Only about 125.000 people live here but because of the oil industry there has always been a lit of foreigner here so its got a different atmosphere to other cities in Norway.
One of the first things that will meet you if you arrive in the city by car sometime between April and September is an amazingly colourful floral beauty. A nice symbol of what a colourful city my home town has become over the years.
Throughout the year a lot of cruise ships visit my town and I love these visits because they make me see this town trough their eyes. The little things that you take for granted like XXXXX.
From Gamle Stavanger/Old Stavanger the contrast between the huge modern ships and small wooden houses is very visible. This contrast between old and new is a huge inspiration for me.
In this part of town you will also find a lot of local artists and craftsmen that displays their unique work.
If the sun is shining I love to bring my sketch book and just sit outside one of the many small coffeplaces around the city. We did get a Starbucks this year, but there's nothing like a local cafe with different specialities.
But my absolute favourite place is the steps overlooking the harbour aerea. Sitting here with some fresh Norwegian strawberries and just looking at people walking by is one of my most favourite activity in the whole world.
In the summer months we also have a weekly antique fair. Its just up the street from my house so I spend way to much money there.
One of my favourite events is the annual street art festival Nuart . It has left its mark on the town since 2005 and you will find evidence of that almost everywhere. One of the most visible ones are the control tower at Sola airport that was decorated by Polish artist M-City
