Chronicles of Alan; Lucas 5

in life •  7 years ago

One day at Lucas a Morgan Sportscar came in, Problems with SU Carb tuning , I had had quite a bit of SU experience as I had owned several Jaguar Mk 2's, so we set them up , actually Roy did , I just checked them as well.

Naturally , we took it for a ride together ( Lucas was very close to where the Johannesburg Hill Climb was held) up to the top of a Mine Dump!

The Rover/Buick V8 went very well in this light car. Morgans's had a unique sliding pillar front suspension design.

There are several Kit Cars available based very much on the Morgan Body design.

Herman W , a good friend of mine who owned shares in The Bike Hospital at this time, had another friend doing a Turbo Version of a Kawasaki Motor in a Metisse Frame! ( Metisse meaning Mongrel Bitch in French)

I modified the Ignition system for him.

BTW if you have an older car that is not fully electronic , you advance the ignition roughly 1Degree per 1000ft above sea level . When you are Turbocharging or Supercharging, you retard the automatic advance by 1 Degree per 1lb pressure increase over standard.

The Kawasaki still used points and spring loaded centrifugal advance , I modified it according to the pressure they said it would be boosting at ,

He never actually used that much pressure as he would go sliding back on the seat, and was actually terrified of the Bike!

Could not find a Video of a 1000 Turbo actually being opened up , but here is an 1100

I really loved my time at Lucas doing what I enjoyed.

Sometimes i wonder what it will be like when present cars will turn into oldtimers :-|

We´ll be old then aswell. Or even worse :-O

I don't think Modern Cars will last as long? Thank You.

It depends. how can we know :-/ ? But i agree. present cars are more like a BUY-USE|short term and dump scheme. Their value vanishes in such a short amount of time. It´s sad.

Keep up posting things you value! :-)

you have an exciting life sir!

Sometimes more exciting than I would like! Thank you.

Dang a boosted bike! Does what 9s or less in the 1/4 mile?

I am sure Less? Thanks, appreciated.

It's a dream car! Even though you cough when riding it lol.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Im sure, Thanks.

It shows how much you enjoyed your time at Lucas - you certainly seem like a good mechanic.

My uncle used to say of my dad's 1100, "there is fast, and then there is sudden, that bike is sudden." He came back pale white after riding that bike one time. This is from a man who did wheelies with my mom on the back.

Sounds like a good description from your Uncle, Thank You.

That's pretty powerful !

Certainly is! Thank You.

A beautiful car, do you still have it?

Was not mine, just needed some tuning. Thank You.

meep

Exactly!

Good post . Thanks you for this post .

Thank You, appreciate your comment.

So cool. You do enjoy writing your rides out. Thank you my friend @awgbibb

Great friend! Nice car

Thank You, Glad you liked it.

Very nice job friend

Thank You ,Appreciated.

It looks like a very beautiful little automobile.
It sounds like it became even better engine-wise when you modified it haha
The 1100 turbo looks like it has some serious power.
Great to learn more about your motor-centric life @awgbibb

Thank You, I have had a very exciting, varied, life!

It really does seem like it.
All these different cars and cycles you have worked with sounds like so much fun.
I hope you have a great day :)

It is so impressing, I'm sure you like and enjoy this

Oh I do, Thank You.

no worries

OMG that was class !! thrilling videos.

Thank You, Glad you enjoyed it. Thank You.

If I had that car right now, i would wrap it in chrome :P

Probably make it a lot heavier? Thank you.

Oh no ways.. 3M car wrap isn't very heavy at all. It would obviously add some weight, but not too much. It's worth it for how it'll look haha!

ha ha, that Morgan Sportscar with an aluminum or wooden chassis would not pass today's safety standards. Noisy? I don't doubt it :)

I am sure you are right on that!, Thank You.

once bought a new Pontiac Firebird - it was bloody noisy - they ended up stuffing sound padding everywhere - heard from others that the chev corvette was way worse - all that fiberglass, and definitely not the type you'd crash test

I have a love for engines but not the wallet for it. What i would give to enjoy a day in such a nice car.

Join the club, I am sitting with a problematic LDV that is extremely difficult to locate spare parts for! Thank You.

They sat if you enjoy what you do, you wont work another day in your life. I guess that is about right...

Very True, thank you.

That's a beautiful car. I can only imagine to have those car

Would be very hard to find now. Thanks.

@awgbibb god that bike flew with a speed of sound 😲 i loved it!

Thanks for sharing! Really can see your passion for this.

What do you like most? The exclusieve cars or the bikes? If i must choose i would say the cars..

I would agree with you, more comfortable . Thank You.

Glad you do, Thank you.

that bike is a beast ! its been sometime since ive last visited steemit , feels good to see your contents again

Thank You, Welcome back.

Its not a choice, its a must have; a car which you love so much that it will forget your bike for a moment ,.. but not that long :-)

True That. Thank You.

Cool @awgbibb

Cool car. You're lucky, you've got one.

Does 1100 Turbo is more powerful or is it the 1000 Turbo one after seeing the video
i guess no one can beat that power for sure.

The 1100 should be more poweful, but winding up the boost a fraction can make a huge diifference. Thank You.

Beatiful car..looks cool 😊

Thank You.

I think Rover/Buick V8 is one of its kind it purely unique never seen anything in my life like this this is a treat to watch !!
and that Bike man that is too powerful you can sense it from the Revvvv OMG !!
You had a great time enjoying out in Lucas its always a joy to checkout your blog post's

The car looks awesome! I love such cars.

Well, you know I do too? we have that in common. Thank you.

See, when you drive home today, you've got a big windshield on the front of your car. And you've got a little bitty rearview mirror. And the reason the windshield is so large and the rearview mirror is so small is because what's happened in your past is not near as important as what's in your future.
Thanks for sharing @agwbibb

Unless in your mirror you see a truck bearing down on you with Break Failure? Thanks.

Thanks 🙏🏻 For the advice

Love the post again. Must be great to solve These issues And drive these cars during work.. great!!

You had a Jaguar Mk 2? Awesome dude. The old cars are way more better than the new ones. :D

2x Mk2's and 3x Mk1's The one was good for 160mph. Thank You.
