@barrydutton Hi, its not something I've really considered before. Originally living in Scotland our water tasted pretty great. Note, the water in England is considerably worse o.O I'm curious is there a country you would hold up as a shining example of potable water supply done right?

@wanderingone it depends where you live in Scotland. We live near Glasgow and our water was so poor we had to purchase a water filter. The difference is so clearly noticeable, you can actually smell the difference!

Hi Barry, I not sure about how steemit works, but could you repost this with five all different tags and reach a whole new group? Target groups that you wouldn't normally, could probably use a "nudge" anyway :) Might be worth a shot.
I'm no whale but I did promote this with what I had. And I'm liking steemit more each day. Might as well promote things that could wake a few more up, or at least have them thinking straighter.

You can adjust the tags on an article anytime you want, in an edit, except the first one.

But on a new article, it would be kind of spammy to just repost with new tags so I would not do it........ but similar thinking is possible along those lines, since you asked and since you are learning.

I use baking soda to brush, and I did buy a Berkey, but don't know if it filters fluoride? Does anyone know if it does?

You have to get the PF 2 or PF 4 filters for the Berkey - and you need to get the right ones for your unit. Easy to figure out though.

The fluoride filters go on the bottom side of the steel drainage tub.

The smallest couple of Berkeys will not accept the PF filters for fluoride.

In the U.S., community governments or individual utilities decide whether their water supplies are treated with fluoride, depending on whether the water provider is a public or private utility. The federal government, through EPA, just requires that the utilities provide their customers with an annual report about what's in their water.

The state government decides whether those reports are forwarded to the federal level. You can check whether your utility puts fluoride in your water at this site from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: here. I can see that in my county, Lane County, Oregon, only 1 out of 69 utilities puts fluoride in their water.

In the case of fluoride, it may not even be a government decision at all --- but a private water company. The US federal government is "the good guy" in this case -- without their reporting requirements, folks might never know what's in their water at all. And in states where fluoride is a local issue, folks who want change don't have to convince a whole nation or a whole state -- just their neighbors.

Bless you for getting the word out. Most people I try telling I care about, but they never listen. Easier to label me a whack job then look at the evidence, and break free from slavery. Keep up the good work. And if Canada is like the USA, your not dealing with "government" but a corporate structure that is nothing like your taught in school. Don't kill yourself trying to change the (cult)ure they are zombies. Spend more time protecting yourself and loved ones before dying in a fruitless campaign that only few people will accept.

Concerns me when I think about the third world countries where the quality of water is the worst! Over time, it could even change the DNA of people and increase the risk of poor health. 70% of our body is made up of water and if the quality of water going into our body is not good, imagine what it can do to us!! I had a friend in Dental school who showed me pics of people who were over exposed to flouride and had really strange colored build up on their teeth. It was not a pretty site and not something that a dentist will usually tell you about when you go in for a cleaning. It's odd how dentists still offer flouride to people on a daily basis even though they know its bad for you. Even toothpaste and mouthwash that sells big in stores never ceases to put "flouride protection" on the labels of their product. Scary society of dental products and dental offices we live in..

I was worried as much as you are for everything but a friend of mine showed me how fasting (either dry or otherwise) changes the dynamic of your body I calmed myself and my close family down. In 2 days of fasting with watermelons we managed to undue a whole lot of issues . It's not a miracle way or a cure but it's a start. Just do it.

This is why I am blessed to have well water. The city even ran a pipe part of our road this year. Wanting us to pay an outrages fee to connect to city water. It’s still under debate if it will be a mandatory hookup to their water system. I guess part of their budget included taxes from people paying to connect. Turns out people did not want city water. At the very least we are now within range of a fire hydrant to reduce the insurance costs slightly.

At least knowing them it will take the local government many years if they end up forcing mandatory hookup. Took them 4 years to put in sidewalks that took away peoples land. We had already planned for a possible sidewalk when we moved in over 10 years ago. Many did not seem to be aware and where at the very least pissed about losing trees, plants and having to see a sidewalk in front of their house. The funny thing about all this is they will have remove sections of their new sidewalk to hook people up to city water. What wonderful planning.

I have a rural water supply and man they chlorine the crap out of it. Sometimes it is white when it comes out of the tap. We heavily filter prior to drinking and probably need to get shower filters. Speaking of fluoride though, I was at the dentist getting a cleaning recently and the hygienist wanted to give me a fluoride treatment. I declined the treatment and she looked at me like I was crazy. After explaining to her why then she probably really thought I was crazy lol.

My small-ish FL town just started fluoridating their water back in 2013. I would't have trusted its cleanliness before that, but putting fluoride in it really upset me. It upset a lot of other townsfolk, too, but a bunch of dentists showed up to the public hearing on it, and the city commission deferred to them. We now only use bottled water for drinking and cooking, and I have a filter on my shower to keep it out (and the chlorine and other stuff, too), but we still wash our clothes, dishes, and other things in it.

If my aunt and her best friend were still alive, I might have been able to stop this. They were both long-time officials in the city government, with a lot of clout in the decision-making that goes on around here. If they'd been here, I could have educated them on how bad fluoride is, and they would have listened and done something about it. As it is now, all my friends and relations in city government are gone, so there is no one to listen to me and take me seriously anymore.

Great article ! It's surprising how many people are not aware of the poisons not only in water and their food sources. I am extremely fortunate to be living on the big island in Hawaii..No floride and no chem-trails. Unfortunately Monsanto is using Hawaii for it's breeding ground for GMOs and roundup. I grew up with spring water. We use non-fluoride toothpaste, but I DO worry about it here in our water supply. We've got a little one who drinks a lot of water. Is there anything we can do to protect her besides getting a reverse osmosis machine? I saw the part of your post about building your own for cheap, but am not confident in my abilities to do that...

Yes, the Zero Water filters are awesome. a little pricey and hard to find replacement filters locally but you can order from amazon. . It comes with a water tester. Just remember when you filter, you also lose a lots of the necessary minerals, so best to go to health food store or order on line some good organic mineral drops to add to it. Or eat a variety of organic fruits, veggies, meats, etc. If your water is too acidic. just add a pinch of bacon soda to your water. I also grew up drinking spring water and my grandmothers well water..sure miss it.

WOW - We need more of this information out there - 100% agree

I use a distiller but something to consider about our water, no just the flouride and yeah - it is bad.... but consider the chlorine that they use to kill bacteria?
Think about it! Chlorine... in our guts we have bacteria, this is called our gut flora. Chlorine is killing this and making us sick...
Also..governments telling us to cover up, put sunscreen on, wear a hat... whatever you do, avoid the sun!!!!
We are (as a society) lacking vitamin D.

Great article! So true, I like the way you sourced everything at the bottom. Keep up the good work. Berkey sells some great replacement filters. 2 stage drip- activated charcoal to secondary fluoride and arsenic. Their filtration systems are kind of pricy so I used two food safe buckets stacked with Berky guts, drill a couple holes, add a spigot, and you're in business. Tap water goes in the top and then comes out the bottom fluoride free.

It's challenging to convince my community to avoid tap water..

I meticulously select my waters but still get served tap water when I visit my local cafes, and food establishments.

Every city has different quality and type of pipes leading TO the home but in most cases the city has the same water source, most of the time.

For ex. if you remember about 2 summer ago, the whole area by the Civic Aud. roads were torn up all the way from south of Hwy 2 by the Ford Dlrship, all the way up Thornton North - way up to around Adelaide as they replaced a lot of the water mains with a massive job, they were rotting out, I followed the staff reports and updates on that from a community/political perspective, it cost a TON of money and the fact we are living in (insert town name) with rotting infrastructure, is not good on many levels.

Strangely, the tap water in a Texas locality I was recently in seemed to have a faint taste of iodine to it. I wonder what other options we should be looking at to keep the water safe from microbes but also without the bad effect of the toxic halides we are currently loading our water with, and ideally easier to filter than fluoride. Iodine and borax seem like potential options.
