There are thousands of Housesitters around the World who love their job. We are also one of the lucky ones who travel the World with Housesitting and can live without rented accommodation. But the life of a Housesitter still offers so much more than free accommodation.
Why you will love housesitting and therefore should start now we will tell you in this post.
You spend a lot of time with animals
Honestly, who does not like to be surrounded by animals all day? Play, cuddle, go for a walk - these are your tasks as house and petsitter now!
If you are an animal lover anyway, you will love the housesitting. For us, with this "job" a dream comes true! Because we really wanted to do something with animals professionally (and we do not mean butchers) but unfortunately could never realize it. Now we connect travel with Petsitting and did not even have to learn another profession.
Animal care is not necessarily hard work - it is primarily a responsible task. As an animal lover, you will fill them with heart and passion. And you will have a lot of fun with it plus a lot of gratitude from the animals. Guaranteed!
You have the chance to live in the most beautiful Houses and Apartments
As a Housesitter, you sometimes enjoy a high level of comfort, live in the most beautiful houses and are surrounded by tourist attractions. Where a tourist pays a lot of money for overnight stays in metropolises, you live quite in vain and do not even have to work hard. We do not want to make one jealous here but here are some examples of our past Housesits:
- Villa with pool close to the beach
- Studio in Sydney is within walking distance of the most famous attractions such as the Harbor Bridge and the Opera House
- Apartment located in the best location of Manly Beach with an invaluable view
- 2 Weeks Housesit with four unique dogs (including a pug that brought us to daily laughter) and a half hour drive to the world famous Hyams Beach in Australia
Doesn't that sound like a dream?
You will save a lot of money
Housesitting spares your travel fund! It is not just the accommodation costs that you save with housesitting. The possibility to use the kitchen and cook yourself a Meal saves a lot of money. Often, the homeowner leave some food in the refrigerator, which you may consume.
Also, the fact that you do not wash your laundry in a laundromat and have to go to Cafes to use the Wifi saves Money again.
An investment in an annual membership of Trusted Housesitters is worthwhile already from the second night in a hostel. Not to mention the comfort of a home compared to a hostel. This is invaluable.
You travel spontaneously and become a flexible person
Your travel behavior will change through houseitting. You used to plan your tour outings for tourist attractions and highlights. As a Housesitter, however, you will create your travel plans in such a way that you can make as many and / or attractive housesits during your journey as possible and still get around properly.
Can you travel only once a year? Then you could plan your annual vacation not for a certain place but for a certain Housesit. So you can escape the high season also the masses of tourists.
In the future, you might travel a lot more spontaneously and come to places and regions that were never on your agenda. You start to become a more flexible person who can get used to new environments. All these factors are factors which, in our opinion, will personally evolve and positively influence your travel behavior.
I have thought about traveling via housesitting/petsitting so many times. It really does seem like one of the easiest and cheapest ways to travel, and like you said it can change your perspective on traveling drastically. Thanks so much for sharing this. BTW, I am a curator with @ocd and would love to nominate this post.

Thank you for your advice here. We will be starting a big journey in two and a half months. We'll be travelling to USA (New York and Westcoast) and to Mexico with our three children.
Your post inspires me to check the housesitting option again.
What do you think. Is it possible to do this with three children aged 1 to 8 years?
Well, we'll see. Anyway I'll blog about my experiences here...
Best, Sonja

Hi @sonci and thank you very much for your words. your plans sound amazing, just go for it. it probably will be a bit more challenging to find a sit, but I´m pretty sure you'll find one, especially on trusted housesitters. I often read thinks like "sit will be good for a family" or something like that. There is also small farms to sit, with many different tasks like feeding goats, cleaning up horse paddocks and so on...
