With The Raise Of Beggars In The Streets Is There A Way To Help Them With Giving Them Nothing?

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

Walking down the street, or going into a fast food joint or just going to the ATM there seems to be more and more people asking for money.
Not all these people are homeless for some they can't work and may be a way to bring some money in for the family, or they may not want to work as peoples kindness brings them a nice living.

Many different reasons, for what people do, and how they live their life, but with so many constantly asking days and days to years on end people are starting to become annoyed as some of them are now getting verbally abusive if you give nothing, some now expect.

Thinking about a conversation that started about how others are getting annoyed at this and some are getting frightened to go out to certain places due to rudeness, that it make me think that we could all say to someone that is constantly asking for money, you can say Steemit.com - go and earn yourself a little bit of cash.

The thing is people want money raining down on them and that doesn't happen, peoples kindness is now wearing thin, this is were I think Steemit comes in as it uses what everyone has - Knowledge, it's about sharing what you know, helping others.

If people want to change they will find a way to get to where they need to get to be able to achieve there goal.
There are public library's, free wi-fi spots for people to access the internet to sign up for a free account and write what you know about, but remember children are on Steemit also if it is not readable for children don't post it, there are special tags for steamy stuff, have a look around before you post to get an idea what Steemit is.

What's your thoughts on this subject?

I live in the Netherlands and here the beggers smell like beer. When they ask me money to eat, i give them an apple or share my food. You think they would be thankful? They get angry and cannot say thank you. They often refuse the food you share with them.

That is really sad,
There was that issue somewhere down the line in New Zealand where people would give them pies, they were so sick of eating pies that they would go back into the store and get the persons money back to spend on something else till the store noticed what was happening and stopped it as the pies where about $4-$5 each.

Now apparently the beggars refuse pies.
It's sad they get angry at people trying to help in a way that they can.

Hi @biglipsmama, just leaving you a little message here in case you don't see it in Chat... the deadline for the challenge is tomorrow (Wed) at 12 midday UTC, so I will be sending you the entries to judge sometime tomorrow afternoon. I know NZ is 12 hours ahead of Ireland, so you will be in bed by the time I send the links, but you can let me know your choice of winners on Thursday :-) Many thanks!

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to steem feed him for a life time.

I love that!

Wow, you fit right into my realm and so does your article. My name is Dan, World Travel Pro. I've been perpetually budget traveling around the world for more than 10 years now.

Your article really hits home as there are beggars and desperate people in every corner of the globe. Some places I've been to like Medellin Colombia, Cambodia, or even Aruba; I could be handing out money all day to the homeless and poverty stricken. Sometimes I do give a little, especially if I see someone severely disfigured or handicap, with no social system in place like we have in the US to help them.

When I don't give money I often think to myself, do I owe this guy a living. Who said it's my responsibility to owe this person a living. not sure if that's the right way to think, but it seems to clear any guilt from just saying no.

I really enjoyed your article, upvoted and following. I think you would love to see some of my post. I just published World Travel Report Ecuador. I always write from a long term budget traveler perspective. I'm sure you'll enjoy. Have a great evening! - World Travel Pro

Hey Dan,
Awesome, will be going to check out your posts, as just gave you a follow.

It is hard not being able to help everyone, we can't help everyone, but I think that this is were Steemit comes in to play as everyone has a chance to earn even it's just a little, that may just change someones life by telling them to go to Steemit if they chose to listen is on them at the end of the day.

Couldn't agree more. Thank you for your positive comments. I also think Amazon Mturk, is an outlet for some as well to make little something. At least enough to buy rice and beans!

IF 0nly it were that easy! N0t everyone believes ;( Believe me, I tried and am trying haha

It's not easy, but is more and more people stopped giving money and started saying Steemit, they would eventually try - maybe.

Hey there Big Lips Mama. Wow I love that name! I just published another travel report I think you'll enjoy. Here's the link.

The opportunities that Steemit can potentially offer an individual are tremendous. There's not reason why someone couldn't have a real chance and making it if they stick with it and don't give up on here.

Many people you see on the street are literally dying. We used to get homeless people in the hospital all the time with incurable ailments. Many are in to much pain or too crazy to work. You would think they would get adequate care but often their families had abandoned them.

There are scammers out there but they likely not really homeless. The ones living in tents on the street are often the real deal. Often they drink and do drugs but a great many have mental problems. The ones who ask for a sandwhich instead of money are really hungry.

One thing you can do; If you see an elderly person living on the street in squalor you can call your local elder abuse hotline; because self neglect counts as abuse and they can send a social worker to asses their situation.

I want to learn more how to help people in Los Angeles; the biggest cesspool of pain and suffering imaginable. It is criminal neglect how the mentally ill are treated here; criminal neglect on the state level.

There are many different people with many different situations, and some just don't want to be helped, or they don't know how to get out of there situation, unfortunately there are so many others that see it as easy money than working, which are the ones that are abusing others when no one gives to them.

A lot feel let down by the government so rebel as they don't want to live to work paying debts, there are people abandoning their land so they don't have to pay land taxes, which is very sad.

True; but I know what it is like to be stuck somewhere and have to beg for bus fair. People thought I was scamming, a young healthy girl asking for money.

Not that I do not judge sometimes myself. I feel like I have learned to spot some bullshitters at least.

I think that it is different when you truly need and say what you need it for, and do what you say.

But yes it is hard to not judge sometimes.

thanks for sharing

Very great p0st! I expected you giving sympathy but you sp0ke the truth! There was a time when I use to feel sorry f0r those ppl out BUT we just don't know these ppl so, WE have to protect ourselves.
These same ppl will make fun 0f you, put down your goals, beliefs and what not yet, here they are begging when knowing damn well they can do something about their situation. ish, no one helping my ass 0r care for me!
Thx

Thanks @tradz,
everyone does feel sorry for them, but the more and more they abuse peoples kindness it wears thin, some just don't agree with the system and see this is the way for them.
Some of them will make fun of you when you try to help but think of it that you can't help everyone and those that want to change will change in their time.

Regarding me stating tht ppl make fun of you(us), I was referring to those ppl out on the street@one point(s) in their lives when they destroyed someone's else's dream by speaking negative and 0r what n0t. And now these same individuals are asking f0r our help. N0t everyone's situation, just sayN! I work hard and so, I expect everyone else to as well ;)
But I do understand their belief, I can agree with that but hey! I hate some government laws and certain ways things are ran but, I have to be strong and play the game, so do you!

I do find it odd that to this day we have homeless people in America. Just how? It's not like it would take a SHIT load of money. Just to give people a place to stay (no the damn Hilton) and a job... when I see someone with a sign or something if I have some dollars I give it up.. I dont really need it.. Im not rich but I'm not in their shoes..

On the flip side of it. All it takes is one and it ruins the chance for these people. By that I mean people who arent really homeless but stand out there and that is secondary income. Reason why my wife doesnt give out money. The local news busted one person that was doing that stuff. You have to be really low down person to fake being homeless...

It's odd there's homeless anywhere in the world there shouldn't be homeless, poverty anything but it's everywhere.

It would take just one person with a bit of land to donate it and get everyone in the community involved to build little huts, or tiny homes out of tyres, mud, left over or donated materials, hemp create would be the best option - for people to be warm with out heaters, no mold, and fire resistant - for those that are truly homeless or down on there luck.

It probably wouldn't cost much at all but time.

Yes there is the other-side of it which is the ones that are ruining it for the ones that really do need the money for food than a secondary or first income.

The local papers here do articles about it here, there are rings of them that do it, one person that wasn't apart of the ring but sits every day asking for money said he gets about a $150 a day, he said he wasn't homeless.
