I wanted to share a post about motivation. Not bragging, but I hear that I have an interesting life, so I would like to share some thoughts that I have about the negative mindsets and "crabs in a bucket" mentality that I have come across while being back in the United States and have traveled abroad.
This is especially true, if you don't really have any real support groups or have gone through a traumatic event. (Such as divorce, etc.) I am talking mostly to the young men, but this is applicable for all men as men tend not to have any types of support groups compared to women. (Which is a whole other topic.)
Having people believe in you is one of the most powerful things you can do for one another. That is why the majority of people call bullshit on books like The Secret or The Mystery Method. etc. Be sure you read all kind of literature to study and just to be aware. Some good books are, Bruce Lee's Striking Thoughts, The Secret, The Game, etc.
I can tell you exactly what I do to stay motivated from reading and studying things like this, etc. I don't know everything but I know some things, this is the creed that I try to live by daily:
Motivate yourself by any or whatever means necessary. If you can't drag yourself out of bed to do whatever your mind to it then no one else will. This is the hardest part and is essential you overcome this task.
Surround yourself with positive messages and quotes via online, reading positive material, or books. Making blog pages or even posting positive messages on things like Flickr or Instagram that you might find on the net. Talking to positive people or studying successful people that you want to emulate. All things like that. Videos are also a good outlet for that.
Make a vision board (if your more visual), write goals down (write stuff down), or both. The Secret talks about this some. I literally made a vision board of things that I would like to have in my life or what I consider success. It's nothing crazy. (it's really small, but I got it laminated and it's book size) Basically, it's something that you will read or look at every single day. That is the key, even if you don't have it, but it should be the first thing you see when you wake up in the morning. You are basically going to think that stuff into existence.
- Self Improvement - Be the best version of yourself always. This is a way of life and a lifestyle. Training is never over. I.E. you took time off from the gym, time to go back. Don't worry about anyone else. If it worked once, it will work again. It doesn't matter what time or year it. I tend to dress top tier ( when in a professional setting) and I like to keep myself in decent shape even when I don't have too. People tend to respond to that and more importantly it makes me feel better about myself.
For me I work out 3 days a week (now) and do martial arts. It may be different for you. But do whatever you like doing and do it 1000X fold. (If you want to be a youtube star actively seek out and network with popular youtube personalities etc. Things like that.) I've always wanted to be in the video game industry and as long as I remember, I got 0 support. Everyone had the same mind set, "go get a real job" " why did you get that degree?" etc. Now I have 2 degrees in the field and have a AAA Game Credit on a major title.
- Stay way from negativity . This will be the second hardest thing and I am still working my ass off on it. This means all negativity and if something negative happens try to spin it into a positive. This would also include people that try to discredit you when you are going back to the gym to bring you at their level or tell you you'll never make it famous, all that type of stuff. Also, beware of dealing/listening to other people's negativity. Not to say you can't be a listening ear, but I believe a little bit of transfer of their negativity (even by listening) gets transferred to you. (Via the universe) be sure to always balance it with more positive aspects of your day.
The most important part (and it's different for everyone) you have to make sure that you always (and it's a daily thing) that you have more positive aspects than negative things. We can discuss more about it if you want, but this all translates on how the universe responds to you on a daily basis. It DOES and will effect your body to. That would include the gym as well.
Ex. If you are shitty even though you work hard at the gym the majority of the time your body will respond in an adverse way and you won't be making gains. (Makes sense?) If you can have that sort of mental discipline under heavy weight's what is stopping you from using that same mindset through all aspects of your life?
There are other things you can do to counteract negativity like traveling (or even just relocating from the area you may be living etc.), meditation etc. but these are the main points for me that I try to follow each day.
