Boys never grow up... Their toys just get bigger, and more expensive!

Big Boys' Toys

One thing I would love to do one day is to learn to fly R/C planes. Every year the WA Model Aircraft Sports Center puts on a weekend-long show, with all sorts of planes, drones, helicopters on display, both on the ground, and in the air. Last year we took a wonder down to the show in Whiteman Park, and stuck around to see some of the planes.

The level of detail, craftsmanship, and money that goes into some of these works of art would make me terrified to even fly one. A lot of them are built from the ground up, off plan, and can take hundreds of hours to construct before getting into the air.

This Airbus A330 was by far the biggest of the planes on display. That's my 11-year old sone next to it to give you an idea of the size.

Some of these models were really beatiful to look at, and made me want to get into the hobby even more.

But of all the plane there, this jet was by far the most expensive, coming in at $30000 (yes, 30 Grand!!!), and flew incredible fast. The pilot was a real dare-devil, and was really showing off to the max. Apparently he has crashed it quite a few times, and spent about half the price of the plane on repairs.

Just think how much STEEM he could have bought instead!!

I'll have to stick to watching from the sidelines for now. Maybe one day when my STEEM ship comes in, and have some spare time on my hands I'll give this a go. It looks like a lot of fun!!

That’s also something I have always been fasvyeith and wanted to get into

Some awesome ones in these shots

There were so many coming and going. Some even had their own trailers. So much kit.

Getting into it has become a lot more affordable with the electric trainers... but we want the gas and turbines eventually... well I do ;)

I would love to get to an event like that for photos and eventually as a flyer

And ohh yes the end goal has to be gas or turbine

Those planes look awesome, love to crash, oops I mean fly one of those beasts, cheers mate.

They are awesome. I'd love to get one some day.

Its a hobby I have always admired. The cost has always been a factor though.

It has got less expensive with the electric trainers coming out. But the high-end big toys do have a hefty price tag.

The airbus would have definitely needed a trailer to get there and back, that thing is massive :O $30k jet is insane x_x bet it was something to watch though! You'll be fine after you've learned on a kit one XD

Yeah, pretty amazing how those things are packed with technology, and what they can do. The trick is to start slow, and master the art before going for the expensive toys.
