A record of a large ice disc, eight meters in diameter, slowly rotating on the surface of the Liao River in Liaoning Province, China, has become very viral on social networks in a short time.
What has caused the astonishment of many is that the disc is constantly rotating at a constant speed, even when there are fifteen people on it.
Many commentators on social networks deal with the answer to the question of how the ice disc was created at all. Experts seem to have an answer to that.
Since this is not the first time that something like this has happened, a team of physicists at the University of Liege, based on an older example, made the assumption that the "main culprit" is the water temperature.
As the temperature rises, the water becomes denser. The ice around the periphery of the disc starts to dissolve, which gradually creates a vortex that starts to move the ice above it. Soon the ice begins to rotate and a little by little forms a circular shape.
