It's Ok to Fall Apart

in life •  6 years ago

You know those people who try to "keep it together" at all costs? After a loved one dies, they "stay strong?" After enough years they start to look weathered. They're cut off from the rest of the world. Nothing gets in. Nothing goes out. They're just on auto pilot going through the motions, tough as leather.

But they're not so tough. To be well is to flow like water. When you're rigid and you don't allow emotion to flow, then life can't flow and energy can't flow, and you're at the mercy of the elements.

Nothing in the world is softer or weaker than water
Yet nothing is better at overcoming the hard and strong
Lao Tzu

It's ok to fall apart

It's healthy to fall apart. My life has been a series of falling apart over and over again. When we fall apart, we transcend. Depending on the degree to which we fall apart, we die and are reborn again.

My question to you is, how much are you willing to fall apart? How much are you willing to lie in bed for a week or more, not knowing where you're going and what you're doing and who you are? How much are you willing to let pain flow through you?

There comes a time when it all becomes too much and it weighs too heavily. The more you let emotions flow as they come, the less you have to fall apart. If you never let the emotions flow and if you never fall apart, then there will come a time when you deteriorate. I've seen it happen. Some would say it's the source of all disease.

Falling apart is healthier. What's even healthier than that is to flow like water so nothing gets built up.

Are you in a safe enough place to breakdown? We need safety around us and a healthy environment to be able to breakdown. After every breakdown inevitably comes a breakthrough.

Are you familiar with "When Things Fall Apart" by Pema Chodron?

Hi @kylebowe I have the audio. I’ve listened to about 1/3 of it.
