Three years ago FIFO owned me. I felt trapped, angry and bitter. I was caught up in a cycle of despair and it felt like there was no escape. One shift change day ( day when switching from day to nightshift ) I went for a long walk by myself into the bush and I started searching deep within for answers.
Through my soul searching, I realized that I was fully responsible for where I was in my life. All my decisions before had led me up to that point. It was a tough wake-up call and I lost all excuses to blame my situation on.

It took a while, but once I realized that I was alone responsible for my situation, a strength started rising up within me. It got me thinking; If my situation was the result of my past actions, then my future situation could then be influenced by my future actions.
I started searching. Firstly, I changed my circle of influence by spending more time with people who were driven, deep thinkers and less time with negative people who had nothing good to say about anything. I also started looking for mentors, positive people and influencers in social media, books and video. I cut down time at the bar and spent more time reading and learning.
My world changed overnight. A massive weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Suddenly, I felt like I was steering the ship not drowning in a storm. I began to see opportunities and benefits in FIFO that I had taken for granted before.
In conclusion
Life can get hard sometimes. There are many external factors that influence that but we must remember that we control how we react to them. We have more control over our life than we realize. Blaming circumstances and other people will have no effect. Only when we claim responsibility and follow it up with action can we make a change.
