Ready Player One

Went to Ready Player One tonight and boy was I disappointed.

Ready Player One is a movie based on a book by the same title. It revolves around players searching for an easter egg inside a massive virtual reality. I read the book before seeing the movie and I'm starting to believe that the book was vastly superior.

The movie felt like they took a few of the main plot points and loosely formed a movie around them. Instead of focusing on character development and an engaging story, the movie opted for a plethora of references and fancy CG to woo audiences. They deviated so far from the book for portions of the movie that i actually began to question whether I had read the right book.

If you want a night of video game and pop culture references, check out Ready Player One. If you want to watch a good movie steer very clear of Ready Player One.

Thanks for the heads up... but also, now I'm actually kind of interested in checking the book out (and of course, avoiding the movie altogether).

The book is a really cool concept and much better than the movie.

lol
