This picture was taken at the Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary in Pretoria. Shown here is the absolutely majestic Malachite Kingfisher. Uncommon in built up areas, it’s beauty was a rare but most rewarding sight. The malachite of its back contrasted with the orange of its breast makes this bird one of the most magnificent. It’s colours stand out once spotted. You can not take your eyes off it. This is one of South Africa’s treasures.
