Yesterday my children attended Jedi training at Porcfest. It was so sweet watching the 40 or so children learn the moves then dual each other.
My son was spinning in circles and fighting like an actual Jedi, but somehow lost the dual in a tie because he was "on the run". He was a little disappointed, but the dual was caught on tape and we all enjoyed watching it with friends later.
Now that my kids are getting older I am having to step back and watch them accept things like failure or loss. I am surprised by how hard that is for me, because it seems to be harder on me than on them.
Learning to lose is an art form, it requires grace and humility. It's not something we are all capible of doing well. I think gracefuly losing requires that we don't take life so dang seriously.
It's actually inspiring me in hindsight, to see my son try so hard and put in so much effort, then to watch him lose while maintaining such high spirits.
Every time we lose we are practicing to win, it takes lots of loss to find success, and each loss is a blessed learning opportunity. May we all experience "failure" with a grin on our face and the feirceness to try again!!
Your children are beautiful.
That's right, we all win and lose.
But losing also wins and you just have to keep your face up and fight for more.
