Addiction/Habits; How do they affect us?
I recently talked about drug/alcohol abuse. If you are interested in knowing what I talked about, you can look through my blog. It was more of a discussion post. You can share your thoughts and views in the comment section.
Here, let's talk about Addiction/Habits. How they affect us. How we manage them and what can we do to stop the bad once we choose to stop.
If you will agree with me, everyone has one or more Addiction/Habit. Good or Bad, anything you crave so much for and do not feel complete without, is an Addiction.
Some are addictions with good course, while some are damaging to our lives/personality.
Talking about this topic was actually inspired by my last post on drug/alcohol abuse, a response for @illuminatus about something he was compelled to do, tuning into an addiction(not something bad...lol).
While I am still trying to understand why people take drugs/alcohol, to an extent that it takes control of their life and sometimes their personality. I also realise that the use of drug/alcohol to the extent of abuse, could actually be as result of certain Addiction/Habit they couldn't get away with. These habits becomes an addiction that becomes difficult to walk away from without help.
Habits can be anything we get so involved with, something we feel incomplete and empty without. This habits from time to time grow into addictions that are now attributed to our personality.
Not all Addictions are bad. Some are actually good as they help us improve who we are. But the bad once become a concern because of the damage it does to us or our personality.
In my opinion;
I will say, no matter how bad the habit has grown into an addiction. If we find anyone, whose addiction have a negative impact on them, we should offer a hand with understanding to help that person. Believe it or not, an addiction is never easy to break away from. It needs the help of an outsider with display of love and understanding.
Another way a person can walk away from an addiction is by conscious effort to stop. This way is actually very difficult and could take a long time to achieve. But a determine and willing mind can make it happen. All it takes is a strong determination and dedication to effort to try.
Before I end this, I will like to share my way of breaking away from an addiction/habit:
Breaking away from an addiction/habit, I tend to do it more and more until it embarrasses me or I get irritated. The feeling of embarrassment/irritation kills any kind of urge for that thing instantly. It may seems weired, but it works for me.
Please feel free to share. I really would like you to share with us. You may just be helping someone break away from an addiction/habit they have been struggling with.
Just a piece to share:
Do not be quick to judge or condemn anyone for their addiction. You never know how much they have struggled to get there. Rather be understanding and show them love. It will help them get out of it.
Thanks for stopping by.
"Nothing is good or bad but thinking made it so". One of my favorite quotes that I can't remember where I picked it from but kind of a paradox in itself. Nice statements you have there, people struggling with addiction definitely need a lot of care from people around them. It is just a shame that everyone is often for himself these days with the busy schedules. The world could still be a better place if we all care for each other.

We all have one addiction or the other but let me share an experience of a former colleague on drug. I met him when I joined the bank and he has been a very good guy character wise. Somehow, things changed and he was into so many women. From the short ones to the tall ones and fair ladies same as the melanin popping ones. But that wasn't a problem as I started noticing him taking a pills at the close of work. I realize this drug was used to delay his evacuation and to last long in bed. This guy is so addicted that he started complaining that without taking the drug he can't last more than 5seconds. The effect of the drug is more of psychological than medicinal.
Addiction to drug/alcohol is more damaging than any good we can think from this chemical compounds.

I think you meant habits, addictions are bad and people who are addicts can no longer exercise control over themselves

Yes. Is hard to get control with addiction. We sometimes struggle a lot with addictions. But one can break away if they try hard enough.

You have written something very profound on addicition and believe me, i have learnt one or two from it.
I once suffered with addicition too but i decided to sit up and become better the day i told myself that my bad habits were taking me no where. I believe one of the keys to ending the issue of this addiction problem is to weigh what you are losing to what you ought to be gainning. I believe in that process, common sense would come in lol
By the way, i just followed you and i am kinda new here. Would love to get a follow back too. Thanks
