Note: this is just my opinion, if you think i'm wrong, comment and we can have a conversation about it.

The only way an idea can face scrutiny and/or gain acceptance is if its expressed.

Lets take the Google memo for example (if you don't know, a google employee released a memo basically saying that women are biologically not suited for programming and other roles). I don't agree with what he said. However the debate resulting from it brought awareness to an issue (ugly as it is) that females entering the STEM fields are facing difficulties advancing due to people like him (and the science doesn't support his argument).

We need the courage to,

  • let people say what they want
  • think about what they said
  • bring awareness to mistakes/correct things in what they said

Political Correctness effect on open debate

PC supporters seem to think that if you don't talk about sexism or racism it doesn't exist. That because its not talked about in media that people will forget about it. By not expressing stupid ideas, the USA voted a president in to do it for them! Biases are learnt behavior, to rid yourself of them you need to unlearn them. Which means expressing and allow them to face scrutiny and either be debunked or reinforced.

Don't leave your dirty laundry unaired, Confess your weird and wonderful opinions in the comments and lets have a healthy debate (including saying @chatman you suck and should stop writing crappy articles!)

Man, I will open the debate here saying I agree with your thesis completely.

so that doesn't leave much wiggle room.
I am sure we don't agree on everything, but I also hate the way people seem to think if you ignore some problem, it doesn't exist.

"Some day soon we'll all be sitting down to a banquet of consequences."

I think that was Guy McPherson but duck duck go isn't helping

but it seems that

was earlier

I would like more debate on everything, and can give as good as I get.
