How to Make a Change to Your Routine That is Everlasting?

in life •  6 years ago

Hi, dear Steemians!

Change is at the very start of every human progress in the history of our species. It is also the foundation of self-improvement, for as long as you want to achieve something that you do not already possess, you need change.

But we are always seemingly aggressive towards even the idea of change. Our comfort zones compel us to forsake change or even fight against it, be it a change in our daily routine or a change in the way we think.

Even when we are willing to change something, our subconsciousness always fights back and yearns for comfort.

How do we make a change in ourselves that is forever lasting and not frail?

image3.jpg

Our mind would sooner see us fail at life than allow us to leave our comfort zones. That is why even if you have had enough of a miserable life and want true change, you cannot easily achieve it.

Your mind fights back to avoid the pain of change and see the pleasure of comfort and familiarity.
You decide to bring discipline into your life. You plan your every move and step, and you actually go through with it.

A couple of days pass and you begin to feel that you are slightly being pulled into the darkness that you just left. Another day or two passes before you fully succumb to that madness and go back to where you had been before.

Because when you bring instant change to your life and actually try to turn it into a reality, your mind doesn’t let go of the comfort zones that pull you back to your previous routine.

The important lesson that I want to teach you today is that if you want to bring an everlasting change to your life, you need to bring it slowly and treat it with delicacy and care.

Imagine that you want to get into a cold water and swim. There are two approaches on how you can do it.

You can either jump in the water instantly or you can slowly make your way into it. Some would say that it is much more painless and logical to instantly jump into the water. That is true, until the next day comes.

The next day, you are too afraid to get into the cold water altogether. Because even though you found the process much easier the other day, you cannot bring yourself to do it again because of the instant, immediate, and terrifying shock or pain that ensued after your decision to jump into the water. You cannot bring yourself to do it again

That is the same thing with change. Instant change is bound by frailty and will vanish after a couple of days or weeks.

If you want to truly change something about your life, you need to slowly bring that change into your routine.

image1.jpg
img src

For instance, if you want to read more in your daily hours, you don’t suddenly decide to open a book and read for 6 hours and continue to do so for the days to come. What you do is start out by reading 15 minutes.

Then day after day, you add 15 more minutes and arrive at the place you want to be.

After two months, you realize that you have made a habit out of reading and cannot bring your day to a close if you haven’t read for 4 hours.

That is how true and lasting change happens. With dedication, patience, and care. it doesn’t happen instantly or right now, but eventually it will and the change will always remain with you and become a part of your identity.

If you want to make an everlasting change to your life, decide to do it slowly.

A BIG HUG!

@chbartist sir!
If the circumstances are always the same, then there is a feeling of bubbling in the ways of living. For which always requires regular innovation so that our interest in life and work remains intact. It is logical that the person always takes comfort and simple path so that he can live life easily. When we mention the change, we become furious, whereas life is the name of struggle, if there is no uneven situation and conflict, then the fun of living life becomes gritty. For which the most important is self improvement then improving the circumstances around you. A good person is the one who conducts himself according to the circumstances and makes changes in his thinking methods. This change serves as a plan. Although we have to leave our personal happiness and sluggish life because change is a part of our daily routine and we have to adopt it in every situation.

I totally agree with you. From time to time, many people get the idea to change their lives. But for many it still remains a fantasy. Thank you for your useful advice, I think it will be useful to many.

Comparto que el cambio para que sea para toda la vida tiene que ser con mucha cautela, porque no olvidemos que los seres humanos siempre sentimos incertidumbre a la hora de emprender un cambio y ademàs muchas veces mostramos resistencia al cambio.

@chbartist, Human Being is most complex creation and in my opinion, in our mind so many thoughts travel and sometimes we get confuse between multiple thoughts as which one has to choose to walk with effective mindset and which can help us in achieving what we want to achieve. But to achieve success we have to leave behind our comfort zone for sure. Stay blessed. 🙂

Hello dear friend, this is a tip that can be applied in all aspects of life, I have applied it in many things, going progressively is more effective for me, because if I make the change drastically, in a week I continue with my previous habit .

Saludos @chbartist!

All is a great post. The exact change you said is very important and it has been going on since a very old time. But the change should not mean that we should try to think differently from our personal life. You said absolutely correct that change In the affair we lose our life of comfort.
Thanks for sharing.

Great Post @chbartist
You might be wiser than you realize, I just learned something form you that has nothing to do with this post. Thanks for sharing

Hello dear @chbartist.

Wonderful article. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

When I did the reading I could not stop thinking about the philosophy used in these support groups for addicted people or those with behavioral problems. They usually use a saying that says something like: "one day at a time" or "just for today ..."
In this way they adopt the methodology of gradual change.

Because when you bring instant change to your life and actually try to turn it into a reality, your mind doesn’t let go of the comfort zones that pull you back to your previous routine.

Although in these cases in addition to fighting the mind and its refusal to leave the conotr zone, they must also fight against biological agents, adopted by the physical dependence on a substance.

All best, Piotr.

Small steps make seemingly large goals smaller at each tailgate to move forward. The same goes for embracing change. Small changes are always catalyst for motivation for improvement!

Hi @chbartist thanks for the post.

I completely agree that making changes in to our daily routine is not easy but if we do it slowly with positive mindset then it will done in some time and won't be painful at all. Trying to make instant change will be difficult to adopt and there is also possibility that after sometimes we may face lack of interest.

The humans behave almost always like a customary animal. This is due to the mental and emotional wear that implies to assume a change in our habits, we like the comfort. We must eliminate the habit of putting on a scale the proposal to initiate a change to renounce our comfort zone. As you have expressed, it is by introducing small goals that we achieve the final goal of changing, until our conscience assumes that it is possible to change and that the results of that are worthwhile.

Good morning,

The human being itself always wants things to happen, from now on. and, if that were so easy, we would all be millionaires, happy, healthy, etc.

The changes that must be carried out by the human being, do not occur because, yes, they occur, because we have previously planned and, we have convinced our brain that the best thing we can do to be able to progress is to leave our comfort and to undertake a new project, which can only be successful with hard work and dedication

regards

How to Make a Change to Your Routine That is Everlasting?

I can make a change to my routine that is everlasting by doing it consistently and persevere up to eternity.

This routine is pointing to bad habits routine.
And how to stop or break those bad habits?
I remember a video about health and fitness that uses the idea of progressive extremism. Its kinda doing a little or simple things extremely with progress.

One of the most difficult things there is, is to convince our brain that we must make a change, as you mention, the brain, to observe, that we want to leave our conford area, encourages us to desist from the idea.

The changes, if we really want to achieve them, we must focus on them, desire them from the heart, plan to achieve them and work to make them really come true.

Most people who keep doing the same fails over and over again, expressing a 'desire' to change, are most likely caught in a state of immature rebellion.

It becomes a case of people trying to get the person to do the necessary things to change; but, refusing to do so is like getting back at your parents who made you clean your room.

While it was a healthy thing to keep a neat environment, you resist positive changes as an adult to prove the lie that you have no one to answer to but yourself. At the end of the day you have to answer/account to God for everything you rebel against.

Overeating/overspending are excellent examples of rebellion gone amuck. As long as the rebellion continues, satan wins; and of course the person in rebellion loses.

Peace.

We are part of the this beautiful world and change is the only one thing that gives good life that's really great value you adopt it for successful life.

Changing is a process of relearning, growing and developing, it can't happen instantly. It has to be gradual and constant, in this process patience and discipline are vital.
Remember it is a change that means you want to replace what is already there, and what is already there was built and stayed with you for a long period of time to undo it, it will require time and a new level of discipline, a new kind of knowledge, a new strategy, a new mindset and more effort.
What should not forget also is, change constant, it is a principle for growth and development. There's no way we can avoid it. The pain of changing is bearable than when we are forced to change. When we are forced to change we are nit given time or space to do so, but when we foresee the need to change and we begin the process it will no be easy still but at least it will be bearable.
Thanks @chbartist

Hey there @chbartist!
I actually think what you say would make sense in a majority of situations, but not all of them. It probably depends on how much of a bad place you are when you start and how big you want the change to be :)
If you are already quite stable little by little works, but when you are all over the place you need a big shock to kick-start.
Considering that you will for sure fall along the way,
in my case I found it to be better to really push the change till I collapse,
let go for some time, and then come back to it.
At least when I failed I did not think "Oh, I am not even able to keep up with this small step."
but instead my internal dialogue was "Well, not too bad. I failed while reaching for the moon. Let's try it again!"

Good. whether it is an instant or progressive improvement, both processes leads to change. however, the main problem in making change is not the approaches, rather many of us enjoy thinking than taking actions. People greatly stuck on making the "Decision" which bring change. this means, there is a big gap between making the decision and taking the action.

therefore, don't you think that it is important to learn how to make genuine decision, specially regarding the techniques/approaches on how to win the trick of our subconscious mind to make authentic decision that could bring an ever lasting change."

Hi. @chbartist. I'm reading you because I want to change, and I'm clear that what does not change dies. Our mind plays dirty and wraps us in cycles that make us retreat. There are many conditions that block us and there is the struggle, in overcoming the conditions that lead us to stay in the comfort zone and in the hurry to change instead of moving forward we do loops thinking that we are well and that we have advanced. Thanks for your post. I will keep reading and I think it is helping me a lot and we can help many others.

You are right. Changes in life are made with great difficulty, most often the person is guided by the force of inertia. Therefore, one day you may find yourself in a stable and boring "swamp." And I think your method will work. Thank you for the excellent article.

Slow but safe.

It is real that doing something right must be done with conscience and with patience. It has been very hard for me all my life to make things slow, almost everything I do or at least what makes me hurry.

And when you look back on your achievements, but have more achievements. Because you say habits are forged little by little.

Like everything, like life itself. If we respect that process and write down that habit, we want to change it and how, we will have almost without realizing a real change.

Thanks @cbhartist🌸

thanks friend, my routine is eat, sleep, and trade. Wish I could change it since last 10 years, I'll try your tips man, they are useful

Changing for the better is a hard transition of the mind and the body because we are used and accustomed to the things that became our comfort zone.
Taking small steps for change is conditioning yourself to adapt to any transition you take for lasting change.

You're absolutely right, on how to change habits , I'd like to request you to think on one thing, is there anything on earth that is everlasting? Your article is very helpful to be a perfect person. thanks.

Once you have the beliefs that will lead to your success ingrained within you, you then need to have a strategy to achieve the results.

Set your beliefs that you're in great shape and physically fit; you know what you can accomplish (such as running a marathon); and you can see yourself doing this, you can hear the applause (or whatever sound) and you have the feelings.

Allow your inner being to do its part in fulfilling your goal, letting change occur. After these changes have taken place and been performed repetitively, a new pattern will develop that will create the habitual change within you.

It’s OK to be grateful to yourself, this is a wonderful affirmation. Hearing the words "thank you" relaxes the muscles and deepens the resolve. If someone, anyone, thank you for something, it naturally makes you feel good. You want to keep doing it to get that praise again, so praise yourself. Soon others will see the positive changes in your life and praise you, too.

Amazing @chbartist ...!!!

Great post @chbartist, slowly I have a habit to read your post daily. Learning new things daily. Thank You for sharing your knowledge with us.

I think this is my personal thought if you want happiness always successful you adopt a good idea habit change improvement in life.

Good day sir 👌 thanks for sharing this post.i appreciate your life.

A nice & informative read.

Hello @chbartist

We as human beings were not designed to do too many things at the same time, and to do things that surpass us. We must be patient with everything in life, and make changes at the pace that really helps us. And if it is something very new for us, we must travel the road very slowly so as not to hurt ourselves and take advantage of the growth that this new adventure brings us.

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

Thanks for this reading, it really was very entertaining. It's amazing how much we cling to our habits and the fear we have. But when we leave the comfort zone it's the best thing in the world we feel free. The best thing is to make changes without remorse without looking back, always like this, go ahead and think that it is for the best.

This is a really great subjects and I think it can help many people who are either stuck in their life or they just need more variety and change to make their life more interesting and challenging. Your post has inspired me to also write a post on this topic, one which outlines the methods I have been using in my life and which keep my world interesting and alive!
I especially like your approach to moving slowly into a change, because often people fail when they try to move into change too fast and that is sad for them.
I’d like to thank you for giving me the incentive to write about this subject. This is my first attempt at a blog and I have been struggling to find subjects that might be interesting to others, that I have knowledge about. Your words really inspired me. It is such a great subject and one that every person need to embrace in their life. Without charge our lives become stagnant and boring. I really like what you are doing here on #steemit, your blog posts are a great example to newbies like me. I hope you get the chance to check out my post, I welcome any feedback.🙏

another step to make a small into a big change is knowing the reason why and what gain will we get for those change. it ll become goos motivation to change slow but surely
