If you don't take time you will never have time

Hey Keepers of Jessie

Our time on this planet is limited and we never know when it will be cut short, it is probably our most precious commodity and should be used wisely yet we tend to squander it more than any other resource we have access to.

The modern lifestyle is all about being "busy" we're always too busy for others or for things that require a lot of energy and commitment but are we really busy? More often than not, we aren't! Being busy has become a social status symbol and being unavailable elevates you to a higher level of value since that is the capitalist way, scarcity means value.

What are we actually busy with?

8 hours of sleep and 8 hours of work leaves us with 8 hours of the day to be productive yet we spend it on our phones going through social media that does not even engage us in any sort of way. We spend our waking hours on surface interactions or entertainment instead of building deeply meaningful relationships or creating things of value.

Making time to create value

If you do not stop to take time to focus on things that are important and generate value you will be left with an empty existence. Rome was not built in a day and things of value aren't either. Taking time out to focus on a task each day and building, learning and refining will see you create value for yourself, for others, feed your soul and you'll see it was time well spent.

As they say in the Shawshank Redemption, Get busy living or get busy dying.

Have your say

Do you take time for yourself? Are you actually ever busy? Do you waste time or procrastinate?

Holla at me in the comments! All my commenters I will now refer to as Jessie. Jessie is a good friend of mine, but Jessies got a girl, and I want to make her mine.

Jessie here... How are you doing? 🤔 Not too busy I hope. 😉 I agree with what you've written. Being busy is a status symbol more than anything. I am not a career driven person.. Always busy with something BUT never too busy for being creative, having a glass of wine with friends, cooking a good meal, going for a walk on the beach. I don't want to busy myself into my grave without enjoying at least some of what life has got on offer. Thank you for getting my attention for five minutes to read this with my coffee in hand. Mauritius greetings

Agreed @dkkarolien and jessbossman.. I guess I should get off the damn phone and sort these donations for a free bazaar my better half has created for Ramadan.. I'm pretty pathetic and just ride coattails of the doing good deeds people like my wife.

I'm awful at keeping in touch with friends and family back home and indulge far too much in my own chilling. I'm not too busy I'm too comfortable even though I live month to month..

Lol I am pretty much the same I build this cosy routine for myself and I need to shock myself out of it at timeS! There is being Comfortbale then there’s being too comfortable then there’s being stuck in a rut and you can quickly go from 0-100 if you don’t keep tabs on it

Yeah exactly I think I'm at about 88 headed back to the future... A bit lost currently in my whole new world Alladin magic carpet ride role..

lol i like that one

“I don’t want to busy myself into the ground”

I think we’re so caught up in this consumer build gamification of life trying to keep up with all the Jones we don’t even realize all the time we spend doing it!

Taking time to stop and smell the roses isn’t time wasted if it feeds your soul! I agree time to be creative, to cook a real meal and to enjoy actually being on this blue ball in space isn’t such a bad thing

Ooooh glad I could be your morning read!

I enjoyed reading this article. This post struck a chord in me. I am definitely a procrastinator. The post reminded me of my current state in life. When I look back at things that should have been done, it's like time went by so fast. I need to make my man Thomas Edison proud and light up the world like I should. 💡(I needed something not sad or depressing to end with.)

Shot for the props, appreciate it! Lol I do get things done during my day but I love to procrastinate too, especially if it’s a long and time consuming task which is kind of silly but that’s how I lie to myself

I normally have to get a rhythm going before I can tackle tasks by doing small things and ramping up

You are really right about this. Why many misuse the time they have is because they are still yet to know how valuable time can be. The moment we see time, as a treasure, then we tend to discipline our pleasure and the way we use our time

Indeed it’s so easy to forget to focus on the things that really matter to you when you have access to easy distractions like the internet and media! It’s a way to sedate yourself and make it seem as if you are busy while not being constructive!

I think as long as you being constructive in helping yourself grow or helping others it’s time well spent

Absolutely you are right about this
