Millenial Mollycoddling

in life •  5 years ago

Hey Jessennials

Welcome back to another edition of rants with Che, where if it doesn't bring you value you should drop it like its hot. I happened to grew up in the millennial era as well as experiencing the dismantling of apartheid. Which I think has given me a little more perspective than most millennials and the iGeneration (those who grew up as Smartphones kicked off).

I realise that the previous generation was tough, battled hard, they had to endure systematic oppression and real racism, war and all that jazz. Pretty sure you don't shake that shit off and move on with your life.

So when our time came rolling around everyone decided the best way forward would be to overcompensate and mollycoddle their kids to a point where we have moaning millennial snowflakes, SJW and soy boys driving a new wave of lazy people with synthetic civil rights issues they feel like fighting for.

Millenial Meek and Mild

I wouldn't say I grew up in the harshed conditions and was pretty pampered so for me to feel like my generation is way too soft seems crazy. I'm not saying you should all have the crazy work ethic or want to work hard, I slack off all the time but it feels like millennials want to work for nothing. They just want to sit around and spend generational wealth or feel something is owed to them just for being here.

  • Millenials confuse opinion with action
  • Millenials confuse opinion with intellect
  • Millenials confuse opinion with fact
  • Millenials confuse opinion with rights

It's safe to say we're an opinionated bunch with most of these opinions holding no weight or merit. You're opinion and values are only as good as how you hold on to them or how much you're willing to listen to another point of view and not be completely offended by it.

I used to fear for this generation but not so much anymore, the natural order will take care of itself I'm sure of it. While I do have the characteristics and flaws of a millenial I do feel that the fact I realise I have them and trying to work on them puts me ahead of most.

I don't see why I should argue with my generation. No sense in working yourself up about it, you can only control yourself and your view on things. I just see them as the most ignorant, arrogant, self-entitled, laziest and useless generation to have ever lived.

Sure you can show me plenty of anecdotal evidence to prove me wrong, there are millennials doing their thing just like in every generation. I just feel like the vast majority of millennials have adopted an attitude that is borderline psychotic. I honestly feel like I can't even communicate with these people, it really is a struggle.

Have your say

If you are a millennial, what do you think? If not, how have your interactions with millennials gone down?

Holla at me in the comments! All my commenters I will now refer to as Jessie. Jessie is a good friend of mine, but Jessies got a girl, and I want to make her mine.

So have at it my Jessies! If you don't have something to comment, simply comment "I am a Jessie."

Thats cool to hear from one that has put some thought into it.
There are times that I want to strangle my very own offspring.....the way they think about things (specifically when it involves other people) it is very entitled.
They ahve the world of knowledge at their fingertips, yet they dont like to really research anything too deeply....and seeing the fruits of things doesnt seem to drive their decisions...it is more feelings.
I keep telling my kids to look deeper....look at the results of things, their fruits, and then you can see what those people/events/ideologies all result in, and then make a decent/better decision on whether to actually support or spend effort on those things.
Thanks for the honesty....and candidness

I do think that Millenials have it easy and this type of convenience we have is hard to deal with, we're the first generations to have literally anything we want without working hard or thinking much. Its made the generation complacent, our minds are moulded differently.

Our social interactions are online and we don't form deep meaningful relationships which help you grow as a person so you are more susceptible to groupthink and these identity politics.

I think millennials mean well they are just a little misguided in their execution. It's ok to have those feelings and be more empathetic and eventually we'll find the equilibrium, I hope.

I think the lessons we get from hardships are the best lessons you can get and we're missing out on that. I can't imagine what it's like to be a parent of this generation, we're a smart bunch but we're also dumb in so many ways

Well we love our kids regardless of which generation they are from...and by the sounds of things our parents were just as frustrated by us as we are of our own

Well it think you are on a better side since you have overcome those challenges and accumulate huge experiences.

If a group of people think and see the world in a certain way you have to look at why and if there are getting benefit from it before you just decide to adopt their views. More people need to start thinking for themselves, unfortunately, it seems like less are due to the influence of the internet and the laziness of people. People have been taught what to think but not how to think

Seriously! That is what formal education has caused. No independent thinking. Always thinking in line with a particular standard.

However, art is contrary to this. Art allows you to think and express yourself in your own way.

I agree, we outsourced our education and turned people into worker bees. I agree, art, writing, business, sport can all help bring out your creative side. I think if people bothered to read more it would even help a great deal
