Escape the prison of the mind

The mind is a comfortable prison.

So much so that we forget we’re actually in it...

That is, until the creatures of our habits remind us.

How else can one explain:

-materialism manifest as consumerism

-capitalism manifest as corporatism
-health and environmental awareness (and the lack thereof)
-and so many other phenomenological examples of...

System one thinking (Kahneman, 2011), or unconscious and subconscious patterns, preventing long term (second order) success, at the species level and as individuals?

The answer is in a “looking glass” effect (

), which Gary Vaynerchuk describes as not regarding ourselves to the degree that we value the opinions of others, namely parents.

But others, including parents, only shape the limits of what we allow our perceived potential to be.

To an overwhelming degree, it is our responsibility to execute the genetic and environmental code, to play the hand we are dealt, physically and emotionally in this game of life.

How we approach (perceive) the situations in which we find ourselves staring at the prison walls we ourselves built, based upon the fickle foundation of the opinions of others, will determine whether we win or lose, on our terms, for eternity.
