Let Go of the Limitations of Your Outlook

Every day I go through a situation in my life that prompts me to think about how I want to change my perspective. Sometimes I'm not even aware of what I'm changing my perspective to, other times I notice it out of a flash of clarity. Either way it requires that I change my thoughts and actions to match my new perspective. In order to do that you first need to know what to change your perspective to means to you. I'll give you that information now.


When I change my perspective I immediately experience a sense of shift, a shift in my energy. For instance, when I'm thinking about what I want to accomplish for the day I can't help but shift into a different state of being. Instead of focusing on all of the tasks that need to be done, I see only the need to get the job done. Then I notice how I'm feeling after getting the job done. Instead of feeling satisfied, I now feel like I've been shortchanged. That's because my perspective on the matter has changed from needing to get the job done, to getting it and being shortchanged.

In order to change your perspective, you have to identify where you're shifting your thoughts, words, and actions. Are you thinking about what you don't want, what's holding you back, or what you think you deserve? Once you know where your thoughts are you can change them. Now, if you want to change your perspective about something you'll have to do some work. You won't be able to change what someone else thinks about you within the framework of their point of view.

Here's where you have to decide to let go of the old beliefs about something. I don't mean literally leaving them. Just acknowledge them and move on. Let's say you believe that you don't have good enough skills to be successful. That may very well be true. But there are plenty of people who think that way and have succeeded anyway.

So, if you want to let go of that perception you have, start by looking at the skill sets you possess and identifying how much skill set you lack. Then, figure out how to add any skill set or activity you have to the areas of your life where you are lacking the most. If you don't know where to start looking for leadership roles in groups that you can get involved with. That could be as low as volunteering at a local children's hospital, but you get the idea.

Now, once you change your perspective on something or add a new dimension to an old thought, chances are you'll want to change that thought pattern as well. It won't happen overnight and it won't happen without some hard work. But as you keep doing it, over time you will see changes in yourself and your world. The more that you take action on the things in your life that you believe will positively impact you, the more powerful and positive the outcome will be. And the more powerful the outcome you have the better you will feel about yourself and the more motivated you will be to really make a difference.

You can change your perspective on life and about your capabilities and abilities. You just need to understand the underlying reasons why. And change your mindset so that it includes not only the new information but also the new perspective. You can also add to what you learn from your new perspective by working on the skills that you learned in your new endeavors. It's important to make sure that you don't delay.


So to change your perspective, don't let yourself get boxed in. Keep moving forward with new ideas and new perspectives. Change is inevitable and even if you think you've lost sight of what you're trying to accomplish, don't lose heart. If you continue to move forward, you will inevitably find the peace of mind that comes from seeing the possibilities for the future clearly.
